I beginning to think that Maj. Jacob Womack had a son, Jacob Womack.
On the Watauga Petition, Maj. Jacob Womack was a commissioner. There
was also a Jacob Womack who signed the petition. None of the other
comissioners signed the petition.

In the book, "The Overmountain Men", written by John "Pat" Alderman
(1901-1984), original copyright 1970, under subtitle "Washington
County List of Taxables - 1778:

"The Washington County Tax List is taken from Washington County,
Tennessee records, as transcribed by Mary Hardin McCown, Vol. 1. The
Washington County Tax List 1778 - 1801 was privately published in
1964, Johnson City, Tennessee by Mrs. McCown.

1778. Valentine Sevier, Sheriff, Dr. to the County Court of -- The
following taxes collected from the several --- (torn) -- The County
Aforesd. 1778 (To wit.)

I interpret the first word below as meaning 'assessed'. The
inhabitants in each area were assessed by different individuals and
the assessment sheet was turned over to the person responsible for
their area. In the case of Jacob Womack, the name of the person who
did the assessing was either illegible or torn off. Mrs. McCown found
seven assessment sheets. In almost all cases the person receiving the
assessment report had the title Esquire. Three names I recongize
receiving the assessment reports were William Bean, Zachariah Isbell
and John Chisolm. If they were listed on the assesssment sheet as
being taxed, 'Esq.' followed their names. Jacob Womack, Esq. was not
taxed but "a" Jacob Womack was. I'm listing the familiar names on
Jacob's list.

Thomas Burleson - supposedly the brothers of Mary Burleson Allard
whose two sons married daughters of Larkin Womack's supposed sister,
Frances "Fanny" Womack and David Weaver whose father was supposedly
Samuel Weaver who died in White Co., TN
Joseph Gest

Jacob Womack"

Benjam Pyburn, Jr. was in Lawrence Co., Arkansas Territory in 1821
with Jacob Womacks' sons and grandsons. Like John L. Womack (b.
1780-1790), he actually lived in Randolph Co., AR. .

Joseph Gest was with Jacob in Tyrone Co., NC a few years earlier. I
believe the surname is more commonly spelled Gist now.
