John David Womac, 33, of Athens, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, from injuries sustained in an on-the-job accident.

A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George and Addie Womac; his maternal grandmother, Gladys Webb; one aunt, Mary Lou Howard; and two uncles, Joe Ross Webb and R.J. Womac. He was a foreman with the Britton Bridge Company, where he loved to work and took pride in his job.

Survivors include his wife, Shannon Runion Womac of Athens; two sons, Chandler Womac of Dayton, Ohio, and Bryson J. Womac of Athens; two stepchildren, Cody and Emily Hardin of Athens; his parents, David and Sue Webb Womac of Charleston; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Teesha and Keith Culbertson of Cleveland, Shawna and Aaron Carroll of Athens, and Hannah Womac of Charleston; one brother and sister-in-law, Jeremy and Esther Womac of Athens; his maternal grandfather, John Ross Webb of Athens; his fathers-in-law and mothers-in-law, Steve and Barbara Baker Simpson of Athens, and Dewayne and Crystal Runion of Riceville; special nieces and nephews; and several friends and co-workers.

Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with Brother Anthony Wynn officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday in McMinn Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Cody Howard, Brandon Moses, Aaron Carroll, Keith Culbertson, Daniel Powell and Paul Cross. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Miller and Richard Fisher.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Athens Federal Community Bank, 1103 Decatur Pike, Athens, TN 37303.
