I'm trying to identify the Womack families in Boone Co., AR in 1880.
The first one is my line. -

Harrison, Boone Co. - John B. Womack, born 25 Dec 1849 War Eagle,
Madison Co., AR, son of Elizabeth Unknown and Pleasant Miller Womack,
son of Chloe Fraley and Jesse Womack, son of Jacob Womack and Sarah
Johnson. John married 1st Mary Hudson; 2nd her sister, Amanda Hudson;
3rd Mary Jane Cecil.

Sugar Loaf, Boone Co. - Ambrose Sevier Womack, born 11 Sep 1853 Marion
Co., AR, son of Jane Wilmoth and Jacob Womack, son of Catherine Wood
and David Womack, Jr., son of Elizabeth Hawkins and David Womack.
Ambrose Sevier Womack married Martha J. Dodson ca. 1873. Some have
him as Ambrose Jacob Womack, but I was told many years ago by the Wood
researchers that his middle name was Sevier.

Crooked Creek, Boone Co. - Rachel Wamack - mother-in-law - if Robert
has identified her correctly on his web page, - Rachel Cropper Womack,
widow of Granville Womack, son of Susannah Womack Hubbard and ? .
She's living with her daughter, Louisa Ann Womack and her husband,
Thomas C. Evans. Rachel and her family moved from White Co., TN to
Marble, Madison Co., AR by 1860.

Crooked Creek, Boone Co. - Crocket Wamack - Alexander Crockett Womack,
born 27 Mar 1847 White or Wilson Co., TN, son of Rachel Cropper and
Granville Womack. Alexander married Sarah Elizabeth Daniels ca.
1868. In 1870 they were in Finley, Christian Co., MO. It is thought
by the Hubbard researchers that Susannah Womack and her husband,
Joseph Hubbard were in Wilson Co., TN in 1810 and 1820. By 1830 they
were in Caldwell Co., KY. They actually indicate they were in White
Co., TN in 1810, but I think that census was destroyed.

Here's the mystery of the day. Robert, I need help on this one.

Jefferson, Boone Co. - the Widow, Mary Womack, born ca. 1815 TN,
Father: TN, Mother: NC - enumerated as an Aunt in the household of:

Jasper Giles Benton, born ca. 1837, Cleveland, Bradley Co., TN, son of
Thomas Benton and Lucy Arnold. In 1850 Thomas and Lucy were in
Bradley Co., TN; in 1860 they were in Swan, Taney Co., MO. Lucy
Arnold Benton died 1865 Taney Co.

Jasper's wife was Elizabeth Owens, born 28 Jul 1841 Claiborne Co., TN,
daughter of Christian Owens and Catherine Parker. By 1860 the family
of Christian Owens had moved to Sugar Loaf, Marion Co., AR. In 1870
they were living in Union, Marion Co., AR. Included in the household
was a female, M. Wommack, b. 1816 TN, listed as a domestic servant.
She would be the Mary Womack living with Elizabeth Owens Benton in
1880, enumerated as her Aunt.

If Mary were really her aunt and not just someone who lived and worked
for the Owens, who they called their aunt, was she an Owens or a
Parker? And what Womack did she marry?

Looking at some of the other folks on the same census page as the
Christian Owens family in 1870, these are the Wood and Hurst families
- maternal relatives of Catherine Wood Womack. In fact, her nephew,
William Wood, his wife, Margaret Williams and their children were
enumerated in the house just above the Christian Owens family.

Wild guess, but could she be the Mary Womack in Madison Co, AR in 1860
with 3 Womack kids, I think children of Pleasant? Was she Pleasant's
widow?

Or Mary Clary Womack, who was in Washington Co, AR in 1860 with some
Carter children, the kids of her sister Julia Ann Clary Carter?

Ha! I wondered when you changed the surname on the 1860 Madison Co.,
AR census if you knew she was Pleasant's widow. I should have known
you did! Those were my two guesses also.

Yes, and Julia Ann Clary's father, William Clary and her future
husband, Freeman W. Carter were both enumerated in Sumner Co., TN in
1830. Freeman Carter was born abt 1806 GA according to the 1850
Washington Co., AR census.

Pleasant Womack's wife and Mary Clary became sisters-in-law when they
married the Womack men. Jesse's 1827 probate record names William of
Crawford Co., AR and Pleasant of Lawrence County Arkansas Territory.
On the 1831 Crawford Co., AR tax list, Pleasant Womack's name is the
next one under William's. Larkin Womack, Larkin Weaver and a Jacob
Womack are listed together a few names above William and Pleasant.
I'm guessing Jacob was Johnson's Jacob.

Mary Clary Womack is in Cane Hill, Washington Co., AR in 1850 and
1860. And then the 1870 census when Mary Womack was enumerated in
Christian Owens' household is strange. Ancestry has that census in
Union, Madison Co., AR. At the top of the census image, it plainly
says Marion Co., AR. Cathine Woods Womack's nephew, William Woods was
enumerated in the household above Christian Owens, and I can't find
anything about him ever being in Madison Co. I visited with Jasper
Benton and his wife, Elizabeth Owens' researchers and they have no
knowledge of how she could be related to the anyone on either side of
the family.

The ages of Mary Womack in 1870 and 1880 fit Mary Clary Womack
perfectly. Pleasant's widow was Elizabeth, age 35 in 1850 and Mary,
age 40 in 1860. Of course, there's no proof of Pleasant's wife's
maiden name, I don't know how she's related but Judy Farris posted on
genforum/Womack about Jesse Womack and Elizabeth Wharton. She was
referring to Pleasant and Elizabeth. I got a kick out of Tom Hill
when he replied and asked her what the list was about. On WGN some of
their descendants thought he was Jesse Womack. And they had tales of
her dying in Little Rock in 1864. So now someone on World Connect has
the daughter of Joshua Bartlett Wharton, born ca. 1785 Union Co., SC
and died 1853 AR, and Elizabeth Ann Cook, born abt 1785 SC and died
bef 1824 TN, Elizabeth Wharton, born abt 1813 TN and died 1864 Little
Rock, Arkansas, married Jesse Womack. And she quotes Judy Farris.

While I'm on William Womack and Mary Clary, it seems if their
descendants found some court records in Fannin Co., TX involviing
William's estate administrator, Squire Mays, who lived in Crawford
Co., AR in 1830.

"Your Petitioner Squire Mays Administrator of the Estate William
Womack Dec. (deceased -bw) would Respectfully Represent to your honor
that the only Estate of said decedent consist of a Certificate for one
League and Labor of Land Granted by the Board of Law Commissioners for
said County of Fannin on the 15 day of March 1838 - No -61- that this
said Decedent has a family living in the state of Arkansas. Consisting
of a wife and two children that the widow is not able . . . . ."

Until today I only knew about their son, William C. Womack, born 1835
TX. They shared with me that Mary Ann Womack, born 1827 Arkansas
married Edward Henry Craig 6 Aug 1847 Washington Co., AR. I've seen a
copy of the handwritten marriage record on the Washington Co., AR web
page and Mary Ann Womack was 17 when they married. She was 23 on the
1850 census and 32 on the 1860 census. According to their
researchers, Mary Clary was born 15 Feb 1815 TN. It's my guess that
Mary Ann Womack Craig was William Womack's daughter by an earlier
marriage. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Jacob Womack of Johnson
Co., IL who married Rachael Edmonds were William's son also.
