Hopefully I'm not rehashing old info. Jesse's wife Sarah who
remarried Edward Hancock after Jesse died moved to Jessamine County,
Kentucky about 1822 and died there the following year. Her estate was
administered by her youngest son John, and you can find references to
the Folden Family and others. You can find images of these records on
line at FamilySearch.org; Kentucky Probate Records. The information
is in Will Book C, page 301 (estate appraisal) and pp 433-434, estate
settlement. Not on line, but there is another reference to this in
Adair County, KY court records where Willliam Womack and Richard Brown
(husband to Sarah Womack) grant William Folden power of attorney to
represent them in the settlement. (Deed Book F, page 168.

In trying to follow John a bit further down the line, if I am correct
he married Phebe Boone Bryan 13 Oct 1812 in Fayette County, KY
(adjacent to Jessamine County). I believe he ended up in Jefferson
County, Kentucky. There is an 1850 census record where the household
is John and Phebe, their youngest son George W, and his wife Mary C
(Chamberlain I think). It appears that most of their children died
before being able to live a long life. If you compare the Womack's in
the cemetery records of Middletown Cemetery to the names George and
Mary gave their children, it appears several of them were named after
deceased siblings. However, I have no firm proof of this. Haven't
found a will or probate yet for John. There is an excellent cemetery
record for Middletown Cemetery on line at:
http://www.kentuckybackroads.com/jefferson/cems/middletowncemetery.html
A footnote to the record mentions that: "All the Womacks listed here
were moved from a family graveyard on Douglas Hill, Middletown, 12 Jun
1934, to make way for the new road US 60."

If I'm wrong about Jesse's and Sarah's son John being the one who
married Phebe Boone Bryan and moved to Jefferson County, KY, please
let me know (don't worry, you won't hurt my feelings). I wouldn't
want to go too far down the wrong road. I have George W, their son,
in Saline County, Missouri by 1880. In 1860 he is listed in Jefferson
County, KY and his parents are not listed in the census. He has real
estate valued close to what his father's real estate was valued in
1850. Pebe died in May 1860 according to the US Census Mortality
schedule. I'm assuming John died about 1859 or earlier.

Correction:

I took another look at the 1850 census with Sarah G. J. (nee Reid)
Cooper Womack. She's actually living in the household of her maternal
grandfather, Dr. James G. Leach, who has been indexed on the 1850
census as 48 yrs. old in 1850. The census actually says he was 68
yrs. old. In 1860 Dr. Leach is 78 years old.

Beth-

Thanks for the additonal information on Jefferson County, KY. I'm
always a bit careful when trying to venture down the branches of
multiple great uncles and aunts since I don't have the direct
connection, so that additional information will help me add a few more
leaves with greater confidence.

Concerning the early Bedford County marriages, I've always suspected
that the multiple consents attached to the Edward Hancock-Sarah Womack
marriage had to do with guardianship issues. The old guardianship
laws gave orphans (orphans in the sense of loosing their male parent)
the right to choose their own guardian at age 14 and above, so my
guess is that Edward was consenting to be the guardian of the three
younger children, and they were granting their consent for him as the
legal guardian. I'm always learning new things and tricks about this
hobby and I ran across an excellent informative essay on the subject
of orphans and guardianships at http://www.genfiles.com/legal/orphans.htm

I was able to find the marriage record of George W Womack and Mary
Chamberlain (Chamberlin) as well as a birth record for Mary B (Boone)
Womack their daughter that helps confirm that marriage, as well as
marriage records for three of the daughters in Pettis County, Missouri
which pushed me down that branch a bit further. There has been such a
huge amount of Womack genealogy posted/discussed on the various sites,
I'm never quite sure if I should get into any detail; if anyone needs
the specifics of what I found. let me know and I'll be glad to
elaborate.
