ACADEMIC STAFF PROMOTIONS to the rank of senior lecturer

 

In my capacity as University Registrar/ Secretary to Council, I am pleased to advise the University community that following the recent promotional exercise, the University Appointments and Promotions Committee (UAPC) at its meeting held on June 10, 2019 approved the promotion of the following academic staff members to the rank of Senior Lecturer. The promotions and other recommendations were noted by the Council at its meeting held on June 17, 2019. These promotions are effective as of June 17, 2019.

 

 

 

Dr Sacha Campbell - Faculty of Science and Sport

Dr. Sacha Campbell joined the University of Technology, Ja. in August 2011 as a Lecturer in the School of Natural and Applied Science, Faculty of Science and Sport. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Biochemistry from the University of the West Indies, Mona and a Diploma in Teaching (Honours) from the Joint Board of Teacher Education, the University of the West Indies, Mona. Her area of specialty includes Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry.

Her research interest is in the area of Medical Biochemistry and includes investigation in the effect of s-nitrosothiols on metabolism. She has several publications in peer-reviewed journals and has done presentations at local and international conferences. Her professional experience also includes Post Doctoral Research Fellow and, Research and Outreach Coordinator.

Dr. Campbell has served and spearheaded projects on many Committees in the Faculty of Science and Sport, and has represented the Faculty at College Board. She also serves on Committees and Boards at other Educational Institutions. She is a member of the Society for Scientific Advancement and is actively involved in the yearly STEM, Talent Expansion through Promotion of Science (S.T.E.P.S.) workshops. In addition, she is an active participant in workshops organized by the School of Natural and Applied Science. Dr. Campbell is currently the Programme Director for the M.Sc. Physical Education and Sport offered in collaboration with G.C. Foster College of Physical Education and Sport.

 

Ms Christine O’Sullivan - Faculty of Science and Sport

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ms Christine O’Sullivan is a lecturer in the Environmental Sciences Division of the School of Natural and Applied Sciences in the Faculty of Science and Sport (FOSS) and has been employed to the University of Technology, Jamaica since 2012.  She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Dalhousie University and Masters’ Degrees from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus and the University of St. Andrews in Natural Resource Management and Marine Mammal Science, respectively.

 

Her areas of specialisation include marine mammalogy, sea turtle conservation and natural resource management.  Her current research focus is on marine mammals and dolphin-fisheries interactions in Jamaica.  Miss O’Sullivan is also Head of the Consultancies, Continuing Education and Distance Learning Division within FOSS’ Centre for Science-Based Research, Entrepreneurship and Continuing Studies and has been instrumental in the organising of FOSS’ last three scientific conferences.

 

Miss O’Sullivan volunteers her time with community-based, non-governmental and governmental organisations, including providing support to turtle monitoring groups in Westmoreland and St. Elizabeth, responding to marine mammal strandings across the island at the request of the National Environment and Planning Agency and assisting the Jamaica Environment Trust with the judging of their annual Schools Environment Programme’s research competition, helping at their beach clean ups and responding to marine mammal and sea turtle questions from the media  on their behalf.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mr Robert Johnson - Faculty of Science and Sport

 

 

Mr Robert Johnson joined the University of Technology, Jamaica in 1997 as a Lecturer in the School of Natural and Applied Science, Faculty of Science and Sport where he currently Heads the Chemistry Division. He has a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education from University of Technology, Jamaica, Master of Science Degree in Analytical Chemistry from Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pure & Applied Chemistry from The University of the West Indies, Mona respectively.

 

Mr Johnson currently teaches courses at the undergraduate level in Analytical Chemistry, General Chemistry and Chemical Safety. Mr Johnson has done research in the areas such as  Trace/Heavy metal content in paint, cosmetics, natural waters and in Chemical Education (Factors affecting students’ performance in General Chemistry at UTech, Jamaica).

In terms of services, Mr Johnson has served on University & Faculty Safety Committees. He is a member of the Faculty Board (FENC), Faculty Representative (UTASU), Doping Control Officer (JADCO), School Board Member (Morant Bay High), Fire Warden (UTech, Jamaica).

 

The University takes this opportunity to congratulate the abovementioned staff on their promotion and wishes them every success in their continued contribution to the development of the institution.
