upgraded a developer machine (from windows 8.0) to 8.1
bds.exe would not start (hanging on loading ipstudio190.bpl and fcstudio190.bpl) // manual removal of packages from bin resulted in normal ide startup
reinstalled both packages. result, bds.exe hangs on loading them, the registrar (RegisterW2W4.exe) seems to be a .NET 1.0 application? well, anyway, this executable does NOT run under windows 8.1
please advise, we're working on new release and would rather not rollback the development machine(s) to windows 8.0 (from backups)
thanks !

I believe this relates to windows 8.1 not automatically installing .net framework 3.5.  Check this article out. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh506443.aspx

Roy,

We had/have .NET 3.5 installed. This is because after upgrading to Windows 8.1 we cleaned C:\Windows.Old. I believe that it would be useful to add something to the readme like "please do not use disk cleanup to clean windows.old after upgrading to windows 8.1". just my 2 cents. Thanks

I am experiencing the same problem with XE2.  I upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1.  Any existing project I attempted to load that referenced TWWDBGRID hang indefinitely.  After uninstalling and reinstalling 1stClass and InfoPower, I could not even open Delphi XE2; it would hang on while "Loading package dipstudiowin160.bpl".  I then uninstalled and re-installed Delphi XE2 and 1stClass and InfoPower with the same result--hanging on Delphi load.  I checked your link regarding .NET 3.5.  .NET 3.5 was already checked as shown at the link.  I unchecked it to uninstall, rebooted, and re-checked it to re-install.  Delphi is still hanging when attempting to load the InfoPower package.

Any ideas what else I can try?

NOTE: Before re-installing 1stClass and InfoPower the last time I deleted c:\program files (x86)\Woll2Woll and deleted all references to Woll2Woll in Regedit.  This did not help.

Jonathan, It does appear .net related, although its unclear to me why your system says its installed, but it can't run.  In any case, I would like for you to try this test build of InfoPower Studio 2012 at

It should not require .net runtime at all so it should simplify the registration process. Please let me know your results as soon as you can. It does make a call to our registration server at reg.woll2woll.com port 8080.

Roy,

That worked!

Initially, I had some trouble with, I believe, Windows SmartScreen--the update installation program hung for a very long time before the SmartScreen warning screen displayed; I clicked "More Info" and was able to tell it to allow the program to run.  At first Delphi also hung when I first launched it, but it eventually came up with the registration prompt, hallelujah!

To test, I then uninstalled the update you provided, turned OFF SmartScreen and tried installing the original version again.  Once again, it installed fine but hung indefinitely when trying to open Delphi, even with SmartScreen disabled.  I then uninstalled the original version, re-enabled SmartScreen and re-installed the update.  This time the update did not hang during installation and Delphi opened immediately, prompting for registration information.  I entered my registration information and was once again able to open and run apps with TWWDBGRIDS and other TWW controls.

Hate to look a gift horse in the mouth, but any chance you can provide an "update" for 1stClass, too?

Thank you so much!!

Jonathan,

Thank you for getting back to us so quickly. I'll get a 1stClass build out today for you too with the same registration system.  We have had numerous registration issues with win 8.1 and I will be glad to resolve these with our new registration system.
