Several months ago, we began a process at Wolf-PAC to address the significant challenges we’ve faced over the past several years, and develop solutions that will allow us to build a movement powerful enough to amend the United States Constitution. Together with volunteers old and new, we identified the pain points that our organization was facing and leaned on volunteer-led committees to develop and propose large-scale changes that our organization could adopt. The members of these committees have sacrificed countless hours working on these proposals. Today, I’m thrilled to announce that the first significant set of changes has been completed, proposed, and fully approved by the active volunteers of our organization! This initiative was developed by the Legislative and Coalition Building Committee. It outlines how we will build the power needed to win. Throughout our history, our theory of change has focused heavily on mobilizing our existing volunteers to advocate with their state legislators, relying on the relationships that we build to convince legislators on the merits of our plan. While we’ve experienced some success with this tactic, we’ve also seen legislative defeat from legislators who are uninterested in engaging with us, listening to opposition interests with more power, or simply not considering our legislation a priority compared to other issues. In order to change this dynamic, this first set of changes overhauls Wolf-PAC’s theory of change by outlining a way for our movement to gain, hold and wield real political power. In order to do this, we need to: - Build a movement in each district large enough to decide elections
- Inspire motivation and commitment within our network of people to vote based on the issue of money in politics
- Organize people for collective action that allows for quick and efficient mobilization of resources when needed
Our challenges remain and using this process to realize our goals requires a long-term commitment. However, we’re excited to begin on this new path because every bit of progress we make is real power gained that our movement desperately needs to be successful. The stakes are high, but make no mistake, if we create a movement like the one described above, we will win and it won’t even be close. To put our power-building initiative into action, we will develop training, methods, tools, and infrastructure for structure-based organizing – an organizing philosophy used by unions and many political movements in the past, such as in the civil rights struggle. These are proven methods in successfully building solidarity among extremely diverse and sometimes divided groups of people. I want to express my extreme gratitude to the volunteers and staff who developed this plan, and the many volunteers who earnestly discussed, debated and contributed their ideas to the proposal. I’m truly excited to start implementing such a high-quality plan that all of our active volunteers had a stake in approving. In the coming months, expect to hear about more plans that our committees have been working on, as well as progress on implementing this plan throughout our organization. Whether you’ve just signed up or have been a supporter for years, this is an exciting time for Wolf-PAC. We hope you’ll join us as we move forward into this new chapter of building power. Contribute to the movement by volunteering your time or donating to support our efforts. Either way you can help is vital to our success. |
