Project for a coworking hub and conferencing facility in Chiangmai, Thailand, by Michel Bauwens

[edit] Description

" In the summer of 2010, I will be opening a Chiangmai Commons coworking hub and conferencing facility, with very preferential treatment of actors in the field of open and free knowledge/software/design, as well as participatory and commons oriented activities. Half of the space will be for coworking (time rent instead of place rent), the other for videoconferencing and other common events. I will start with some start of cultural festival in the summer, dedicated to 'social innovation'. I'm not very well linked with Thai networks, but have a pretty good global network through my work at the P2P Foundation. So, I would really like cooperation from the hacker community in chiangmai and thailand, and see how different projects can reinforce each other. The bottom row of the pictures below shows the building, which we will finish starting in april. It is located soi 1 on chotana road, very easy access from the superhighway and 15 minutes from the city center, it's right at Kuang Sin intersection."

AND HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL

sounds interesting, keep us informed of what you are working on

I am currently in Morocco, and suspect that some resources could be useful elsewhere,

it should be possible  to make use of  existing sillabi and open courseware where available,

re. ICT

In my experience, much of ICT learning is limited by literacy, and computer literacy shortages
as well as by equipment and infrastructure shortages, so I would like to see if possible these efforts
make use of existing resources which are underused/idle

wouldnt it be nice to develop some online resources that we can use in various projects?

I already have resources to teach non computer scientists (people with no programming capabilities) how to create simple websites and online stores
I have been teaching this for some years and has proven popular - happy to share my slides but have to dig them up from somew

I think the training needs to be targeted carefully to the needs of the local audience

let me know if I can help with anything

cheers

PDM
