Dear all,

Invitation for two back-to-back WoHEC meetings: (please attend)

1.      September 18, 10-11 am, WoHEC working group on Smart Grid (see next email)

2.      September 18, 11-12:30. WoHEC meeting on Worcester Solar Challenge, with Next Step Living.

Second meeting: The Worcester Energy Barnraisers are supporting Next Step Living (an energy services company based in Massachusetts) in their “Worcester Solar Challenge”. The goal is to promote solar and help Worcester become a greener community while saving residents money on their electric bills.  Homeowners who participate will get a free solar assessment of their property and if they decide to go ahead with installation, will have to put little or no money down while receiving the financial benefits. There are of course the many other reasons to go solar – utilizing  clean and  green energy, supporting the reduction of fossil fuel use and carbon emissions and helping the thriving solar industry in Massachusetts – to name a few.

A detailed map of solar potential of many of Worcester’s neighborhoods has been completed and several sections have been canvassed to alert homeowners of the program yet much more needs to be done.

We need help with publicity and a nominal statement of support from the city.

The town of Natick had a similar program with Next Step this spring with impressive results: http://www.metrowestdailynews.com/news/x1058221763/Natick-looks-to-encourage-home-solar-panel-systems ).

Worcester can set a shining example with enough support.

Join the Worcester Solar Challenge!

Did you know you could be  sitting on, or more accurately, under a gold mine. Your home is one of only 15% of Worcester homes whose roof is perfectly suited to help you save money on your electricity bills by producing clean, renewable solar energy. We wanted to let you know that as part of the Worcester Solar Challenge you can go solar and:

•             Save up to 25% on your electricity costs over the life of your system

•             Generate low-cost clean energy and reduce your carbon footprint

•             Protect yourself against unpredictable utility rate increases

•             Increase the value of your home

For the duration of the Worcester Solar Challenge, Next Step Living will give each resident who has a solar assessment a $50 gift card to a local Stop & Shop. In addition, for every solar system that is installed, Next Step Living will contribute $250 to the Worcester Energy Barnraisers to support their initiatives to create a more energy-efficient community.

The Worcester Solar Challenge will run until September 30th 2013.In order to earn incentives for your home and help the Barnraisers you must complete your solar assessment before or on that date!
