The Sociology Department and the Women’s and Gender Studies Program at
Wheaton College (Norton, Massachusetts) invite applications for a tenure
track colleague in a joint appointment beginning fall of 2016. The
successful candidate must have a PhD in Sociology with extensive
graduate-level training in women’s and/or gender studies. The annual
teaching load is 5 courses, with courses and service to the College shared
equally between the two programs. Candidates must be able to teach
Introduction to Women’s Studies, and must indicate willingness and interest
in developing courses in both Sociology and WGS around their area of
expertise. Specialties within the fields are open, but we are particularly
interested in candidates who bring intersectional, comparative and global
perspectives into their teaching and research. We seek colleagues with both
a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and an active research
agenda. The candidate will also contribute to Wheaton’s innovative general
education curriculum.

Wheaton is a private coeducational liberal arts college within easy
commuting distance of Boston and Providence. We have 1,600 undergraduates
from 43 US States and 68 countries. More than 20% of our undergraduates are
domestic students of color. Wheaton College is an equal
opportunity/affirmative action employer and does not discriminate against
any individual or group on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, gender
identity or expression, age, race, color, religion, national origin,
veteran status, genetic information, or disability. In a continuing effort
to maintain and enrich an intellectually diverse learning environment, the
Department and the College actively encourages applications from women and
members of underrepresented groups.

Please list the contact information for three reference providers. Once
your application is complete the reference provider will be contacted via
email to upload a letter of recommendation on your behalf.

Wheaton offers a competitive benefits package, including benefits for
domestic partners. The college provides a supportive intellectual and
social context for the development of new colleagues, including fully paid
pre-tenure sabbaticals of one semester and paid parental leave. Applicants
must upload a letter of application outlining the candidate’s teaching and
research interests, current curriculum vitae and evidence of teaching
effectiveness.

Application deadline is October 16, 2015.
