In WOAD, I sent a message to myself (my internet email address), with a ICS 213 form.
I was able to bring up the form, and emter the data.
I sent the file using telnet (the only protocol I have currently)

I opened it up in my email, and clicked on the attachment, and it brought up an xml file.
What happened to the form I filled in?

How do I convert the xml I got to an html page, or pdf? using the appropriate form.

Messages generated from a Template such as the ICS 213 include the contents of the message data fields in the message body.

The XML attachment is included to instruct the receiving operator which Winlink Express Template was used to generate the message, but capability to load the message data into an HMTL form for display inside a browser is proved by the Winlink Express or WoAD application.

The Winlink team has begun adding a capability for non-Winlink users to be able to manually load data into an HTML form for some, but not all, template forms.  The non-winlink user must be provided a copy of the template form separately. Forms are not sent along with the email.

There are videos and instructions on the Winlink site about how to send a non-Winlink user a copy of the HTML template file that they can use to generate messages and load message data for display manually outside of Winlink. Again, this is limited and not supported for all forms.

That approach may also work for WoAD but I have not attempted it.

The FAQ page below includes a link to a YouTube video demonstrating the process of a non-winlink user generating an outbound ICS 213 message.  Possibly the received text could be loaded into the form using the Load Initial Data option.

With Winlink Express you can set the option to have forms that are sent to Internet addresses be converted to PDF before they are sent. The obvious down side to this option is that the message size will increase dramatically and therefore slow the transmission time. There is no such option on the other clients.

Some work was started to give forms the capability to rebuild from the XML file, but nothing has been officially released and I think that work may have stalled.

The forms system was built originally around Winlink Express, and so that is where the code lives that rebuilds the form from the XML file.
