With the Android security model the folders for individual apps are essentially hidden from view, so to make custom templates available to WoAD you would go to (from the upper menu) Settings... Message template... Other templates location...
Here you can specify the folder that you saved your custom templates to. Under "Storage" you likely want to select "Shared" and then click on "Directory" to browse to wherever you placed the custom templates. WoAD will now use this folder to look for custom templates every time, so be sure to leave them in place if you wish to use them in the future.

For importing Contacts select (again from the top menu) Contacts. Then from the lower menu select "Import" and browse to and select the file you wish to import your contacts from. Once imported you can delete the original file.

Hope that helps,

I downloaded the RMS Channel list from the Winlink Gateway Channels page as a .txt file. I followed your steps for Importing Contacts, but got an error message, "The contacts file is not in a recognized import format". How to fix this? I am running version V1.5.1 on Android 7.1.2.

Hi David,

Contacts are used for frequently contacted call signs, email addresses, tactical call signs, etc. Pretty much the same as with many email clients and not related to gateways.

There is no need to download the Winlink Gateway Channels as WoAD can update this list by itself. From a packet session (or any other session except a telnet session) go into the session settings and navigate to Settings... Destination Address... RMS channel selection... From the lower menu there will be an option to "Update via internet". Selecting this will download the latest gateway list (assuming you have an active internet connection).

The list of gateways you are actually presented with will depend on the session type and your current location (which can be configured, using the top menu, from Other... Position report... You can enter a position manually or request one from GPS).

Hope that helps. All the best,

Andrew

Thank you, Andrew.

Is there a way to download the gateway list if my device is not able to connect to the internet?

Hi David,

To download the Winlink Gateway Channels, when you don't have an internet connection, from a packet session (or any other session except a telnet session) go into the session settings and navigate to Settings... Destination Address... RMS channel selection... From the lower menu there will be an option to "Update via message". Selecting this will post a message to the outbox, the response to which will contain the gateway list, which WoAD will process upon receipt.

So similar to updating via the internet, but you'll need to send the message request and receive the response by running a session. This is not the preferred method as the response message can be lengthy. Also, keep in mind that in an attempt to reduce the radio traffic as much as possible the gateway list downloaded via message will only be for the current session's mode (e.g. 1200 packet), whereas the gateway list downloaded via internet will cover all modes. So updating via internet is much the better option when possible.

As the gateway list changes only infrequently updating isn't something that needs to happen often.

All the best,

Andrew
