WoAD log contains the message I've shown in the title of this post.

I'm using WoAD  V1.5.3 on a Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro (Android 5.1.1) with a Mobilinkd TNC 2, and a Kenwood TH-F6.
Protocol: packet
Type: Outgoing
TNC type: KISS
TNC settings: Tx delay 1000, Max packet length 128, Max frames 4, Frack time 3, persistence 160, slot time 100, max retries 4, Tx tail 50pe bluetooth,
KISS connection type: bluetooth
Device manufacturer: generic
connection configuration: Mobilinkd TNC2
KISS port 0

It's clear that packets are successfully sent and received because the log message contains the greeting sent by the Winlink server (A raspberry pi running linbpq -- that is currently working correctly when accessed using Winlink Express on a Windows 7 PC with a TNC X and a Yaesu FT-8500.)

It looks like the packet sent to the WInlink server may be incorrect, as it seems to be interpreted as an APRS packet rather than a Winlink connection request.

Hi David,

It would be interesting to see the entire WoAD log. You can export the log file by first going (from the top menu) to Settings... Export location. You likely want to set Storage to Shared and then select a Directory.
In the Logs screen you can then select Export from the lower menu, after ensuring the Traffic, APRS, Packet and Other packet options are all checked.

WoAD itself will generate a similar warning message to the one you're seeing if it receives what it considers to be an APRS packet with an unrecognized format.

All the best,

Andrew

Hi David,

It appears that the W6SON server is transmitting an unnumbered information packet that reads " Sonoma County Radio Amateurs BBS & RMS.  Connect to W6SON-1 & W6SON-10." The rest of the log entry, "Unrecognized APRS data type identifier: S" was added by WoAD.

What do you have set in the session settings under Settings... Destination Address... Destination SSID? This should be set to 10 to connect to the Winlink server.

I would have expected to see log entries for the outgoing packets from WoAD to the Winlink server, but it may be that you don't have the Packet option enabled in the Logs screen (this can be switched on from the lower menu in the Logs Screen - you likely need to click on the hamburger menu on the very right to see it).

Let us know if that helps. All the best,

Andrew

Maybe WoAD needs to ignore un-numbered information packets when doing a Winlink session.

Hi Dave,

So it would appear that there the connection requests (U_SetAsyncBalancedMode) to the W6SON WInlink server are either not getting through, or you're not picking up the response

I'm guessing that the Unnumbered information ID packet ("Sonoma County Radio Amateurs BBS & RMS.  Connect to W6SON-1 & W6SON-10") is unrelated to the connection request, and just something that the server beacons with at some regular interval.

You mentioned in your original message that things work correctly with Winlink Express on a Windows 7 PC with a TNC X and a Yaesu FT-850. Given that, I would suggest trying to swap pieces around - as presumably the Yaesu FT-850 has significantly more power and likely a better antenna than the Kenwood TH-F6. So it may simply be that the packets aren't making it into the server with the lower power and less efficient antenna.

Also, WoAD should happily work with the TNC-X - assuming you have the necessary cables.
