I was trying to set up peer to peer packet operation with a friend. We had WoAD on both our phones, and connected to handheld radios with the same cable we use for APRS ( https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LMIBAZW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ).

We set it for Packet, Audio (AFSK), and set one as Listener and one as Outgoing. For some reason, they won't talk to each other. We tried setting both as Outgoing, in case "Listener" doesn't mean what it sounds like. Still didn't work.

What are we missing? Do "Listener" and "Outgoing" do what we assume? Is Packet mode supposed to work for a P2P session?

Thanks,
Trevor, AG7GX

Hi Trevor,
Seems like you never got an answer. I'm trying to do Packet P2P myself and having some issues.  I'm wondering if P2P only works with Telnet since that's all I see in the documentation.

Are you using a software TNC modem or Hardware?

The only difference I see between Callsign-10 is a higher and more powerful station.
You mentioned HT.
What Antenna are you using?
I hope not with a TX delay like UV5R will not work on Winlink.

Hi Don,
I am using a 20W mobile radio connected to a Comet GP-1 antenna.  The confusion for me lies in that there is a specific Telnet P2P Session and not a Packet P2P session.  If I'm understanding your reply if I send to a Callsign without a SSID then the connection should be P2P.  Is that how it works?

What are you using to interface to your radio. I use the mobilink Bluetooth tnc. I haven't seen what your radio is connected to

Hi Jeffrey,

There are different sessions for Telnet Winlink and Telnet P2P as for
the former case there is a hard-coded IP address while for the latter
the IP address must be configured by the user. It could equally well
have been configured as a single Telnet session, and then in the
configuration the user would have to select between connecting to the
central CMS server or a user-specified P2P address.

For all the other session types (i.e. non-Telnet) the user always has
to enter a destination address, whether they are connecting to a
Winlink or P2P session. Rather than having the user specify whether
the session is Winlink or P2P, WoAD determines that for itself from
the responses it receives and then behaves accordingly.

The SSID plays no role in distinguishing between a Winlink and P2P session.

All the best,

Andrew

Hi Andrew, the statement below, is what I'm trying to work on... I want to do a P2P session through a digipeater.  How do I add the call sign of the recipient and the call sign + ssid so the the traffic is handled by the digipeater?

"Rather than having the user specify whether
the session is Winlink or P2P, WoAD determines that for itself from
the responses it receives and then behaves accordingly."

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave,

With the session's Protocol set to Packet and Type to Outgoing, if you tap on Settings and then Destination Address you can then enter the Destination call sign (the call sign of the recipient) and Destination SSID (if any).
If you then tap on Via you can specify the digipeaters you wish to use. Tap on Digipeater 1 to check it and then enter the Digipeater 1 call sign and Digipeater 1 SSID (if any)
Similarly, you can also enter information for Digipeater 2 if necessary.

Hope that helps,

Andrew
