Hello everyone, I hope to get some assistance. When I connect either my Android phone or tablet to either my Digirig or AIOB, my PTT activates, but the sound (as heard on another radio) is a quick spurt of data. I have tried AFSK 300, and the data packet slows down but does not connect at that setting. Swapping out just the Android device for a Windows laptop, the Digirig and AIOB do connect without issue.

Any thoughts?

Here is a quick view of my Android settings:
Protcol - Packet
Outgoing
AFSK 1200
Simplex
Channel: Both
Volume: 75
PTT: both CAT and USB RTS work to key the PTT
TNC Settings: 400ms, 128, 4, 4s, 64, 100ms, 10, 20ms

Hi Dean,

Implementation of audio on Android devices seems one area where manufacturers are keen to play around, so implementations can vary.

The first thing to try would be to increase the Tx delay and Tx tail (both under TNC Settings). The most likely cause is that the packet is simply being cut off at either the beginning or end.
If that gets things working then simply play around with those two values until you've got something reliable but with the values set to the lower end of their range.

Also, make sure you have any audio effects switched off on the devices (Dolby Atmos, THX, etc.)

Please let me know if any of that helps (or not).

All the best,

Well, I changed the TNC settings for the TX delay to 1000-1250ms, and the TX tail from 110-150ms, and while it is more auditable, it does not seem to connect.
Must be a setting on WOAD or my Phone. I simply disconnect the AIOB USB-C from my computer and connect to phone.
I included screen grabs incase I just missed something.

Hi Dean,

The volume setting (currently at 85) may need to be adjusted to get the best clarity. Its largely trial and error, but once you've determined the correct value it should remain constant.
Also, the PTT seems to be set to CAT, whereas to the best of my knowledge both the digirig and AIOC use the PTT GPIO. I would think they both use GPIO Pin 3, but you should try and confirm that.
If the radio was transmitting then that likely meant it had VOX enabled, which you probably want to disable once the PTT is correctly configured.

All the best,

Andrew
