Hi,

We are unfortunately looking to rehome our mastiff/cane corso. He is a wonderful dog who we rescued 3 years ago (he’s 4 years old). He has lived with two long term foster dogs, is great around all people and children- however now we would recommend children over 4.

We had a baby a year ago and Mills was great with him. We are starting to notice he’s getting very nervous around him and giving us some warning signs. When the baby comes near him he’s stiffening, eyes wide, getting nervous and still. I believe in these moments we are seconds away from a warning snap. He’s becoming increasingly uneasy around the baby now that he’s started walking.

We are at the point where we have to separate the baby and the dog. Which is impossible when the dog wants to be with us and all the baby wants is the dog! But, I believe we are putting ourselves in a disastrous situation where the baby will invade his space one time without us catching it. This behavior has gotten increasingly strong from Mills in the past month.

Mills would be, and is, perfect around children that listen to commands. 4 and older. This all started once the baby started walking. The baby is loud and unpredictable and I understand that not all dogs want to be around babies.

We’ve done extensive training with him. He went to board and train last summer. His recall is awesome. He’s good with dogs after slow, calm introductions. For fosters we do a two week shut down then introduce them. He doesn’t like when dogs walk over him, really cross his space. I think he would prefer to be an only dog.

We are desperate at this point, I don’t want to take him to a shelter, I couldn’t do that. But I also know this is no way for him to live, stuck in a room all day. Below are some photos. We absolutely love this dog, but we are listening to what he’s telling us. And he’s telling us he’s not comfortable around the baby.

Feel free to reach out to me at 7167251095.

Thank you,

Katie
