JKI 2026 Live Event Dates

Se Raeda Ranch Clinics

2026 is a year of presence, precision, and purposeful study.

Hello everyone—Jillian here.

In 2026, we focus on how movement is organized, how the nervous system learns with Dr. Peters, and why clarity with healthy movement always outperforms.

These live events are for those ready to slow down, look harder, and take responsibility for their feel—through immersive, hands-on study that puts the horse’s well-being first. Please see website for course outline.

What is Vaquero Style Horsemanship?

The horsemanship of the California vaquero. This style of horsemanship originated in early California in a mild climate and an unhurried lifestyle. This environment allowed the vaquero to hone his horsemanship skills to a level of refinement. The vaqueros took great pride in their horses, as well as their skills as horseman and vaqueros. The word vaquero simply means cowboy.

The vaquero style uses finesse, not force. It uses signal, not pressure. The rider must possess knowledge of the way in which his horse thinks, and how he responds to different stimuli. He must also know the biomechanics of his horse. The importance of timing and balance. Vaquero style horsemanship requires discipline and dedication of the rider and dedication to the horse.

Pippa welcomes all breeds, backgrounds and levels as part of her commitment that dressage is for the good of the horse, and not the inverse. She enjoys identifying the strengths and weaknesses of each pair, and recommending the priorities for the short and long term. Her teaching style incorporates memorable visual metaphors that aim to change old patterns. Her passion is to analyze and explain in a way that seeks simplicity, which is a creative process that brings joy and lightness to the work. Ultimately, her goal is to empower riders with autonomous, thoughtful partnerships with their horses, based on an a foundation of understanding and clarity. She leaves students with an approach and tools they understand. Clinics typically include private riding sessions, in-hand work, ground work, theory sessions and unmounted seat studies.
