Monday, September 19, 2005

"Marc Leepson has written a highly readable and entertaining book about
America's most recognizable symbol...but FLAG: An American Biography is
more than a history lesson about the murky genesis of the Stars and Stripes;
it brings together a host of associated and ancillary people, places and
ideas that have made our national symbol an icon of liberty for over two
centuries..."
-Richard Gideon in American Vexillum Magazine

WBFO 88.7FM, the region's most listened to NPR station,
will present Marc Leepson, author of FLAG: An American Biography.
Mr. Leepson will give a reading from his book on Monday, September 19th
at 7pm in WBFO's Theatre located in Allen Hall on the University at Buffalo
South (Main Street) Campus.

FLAG: An American Biography is a comprehensive, illuminating history of the
American flag from its beginnings to today. In it, Marc Leepson uncovers
many little-known, fascinating facts as he traces the evolution of the
American flag from the colonial period to the flag's prominent role as
a symbol of American resolve. Flag sifts through the historical evidence
to-among many other things-uncover the truth behind the Betsy Ross myth and
to discover the true designer of the Stars and Stripes.

Through his remarkable research, Leepson not only shows how America's wars
have shaped the evolution of the flag, but creates the first and only
biography of Old Glory.

About the Author:
Marc Leepson has written for many news outlets, including Smithsonian,
The Washington Post, The New York Times, Christian Science Monitor and
USA Today. He is the author of Saving Monticello and lives in Middleburg,
Virginia.

Leepson's reading will be broadcast live on
WBFO 88.7-FM and will be presented as part of the station's Meet the Author
series, which is an interactive public discourse series geared toward those
with a passion for learning, accurate authoritative commentary and open
discussions.
Individual programs allow the community to convene and share ideas with an
important literary contributor to society.

WBFO'S Meet the Author series is free and open to the public.
Bert Gambini, executive producer of the Meet the Author series, will be the
host. A book signing will take place immediately following the reading
and light refreshments will be served.
Books are provided by Talking Leaves Bookstore.

The 2005 Meet the Author series continues on Tuesday, October 11th at the
Roycroft Inn in East Aurora with David Margolick, author of BEYOND GLORY:
Joe Louis vs. Max Schmeling and a World on the Brink.

On Monday, November 7th the series will with continue
Peter Manseau, author of VOWS: The Story of a Priest, a Nun, and Their Son,
at Musicalfare Theatre, located on Daeman Campus in Williamsville, New York.
