Selvin Rivera Was Home Alone

Thirty something year old Selvin Rivera was home alone.
Like McCallay Culkin in the movie Home Alone, but instead a father of two
living with his father and one daughter in Omaha, Nebraska, the El
Salvadoran immigrant was home alone and in trouble.
His father, Osmin Rivera, had taken Selvin's daughter to California to visit
relatives and left his thirty something year old son, Selvin, home alone.
Selvin Rivera claims to be a recovering alcoholic.
Selvin Rivera is and was nothing of the kind.
Selvin Rivera is a practicing alcoholic.
This day, though, Rivera's alcoholism awas about to kill him.
Nearly kill him.
Fortunately, Rivera had befriended neighbor Trent James Stewart, a lifelong
resident of Omaha and recovering alcoholic with then something like thirteen
years sobriety.
ACTUAL sobriety, not the claims of recovery in between binges as is the case
with the El Salvadoran immigrant.
Stewart, who lives alone, received a knock on his front door the day Selvin
Rivera nearly lost his life.
It was Selvin Rivera, living alone at the family home, while his family was
away.
Rivera was in bad shape.
He was standing on Stewart's porch and asking him, "for a small favor" as
always, something which Rivera had done hundreds of times in the short few
years the two had known each other.
But this time it was a little different.
Rivera looked sick, very sick. He claimed he needed a ride to the hospital.
Stewart was skeptical.
In the few years Rivera and Stewart knew each other, Selvin Rivera had
received surgery after surgery after surgery for complaint after complaint
after complaint regarding his health.
Stewart never met anyone who was so regularly claiming medical problems as
Rivera had and never met anyuone who received medical attention the way
Rivera did, free of charge.
So, naturally, when Stewart heard Rivera ask him for yet another favor and
state Rivera had yet another medical condition for which he claimed he
needed atttention, Stewart nearly laughed and slammed the door in Rivera's
face.
Rivera was drunk, for certain.
Drunk again, nothing new.
But this time Rivera said he thought he was going to die. He said he
consumed much Tequilla while taking the prescription drugs he was routinely
given free of charge for his endless medical complaints.
This time, Rivera told Stewart his arm was numb and he was about to lose
consciousness. He asked for a favor, to be transported to a hospital
emergency room.
Stewart asked Rivera if he was putting him on, pulling some kind of prank.
Rivera claimed he was serious, so Stewart asked Rivera if maybe he should
call an ambulance.
Rivera responded that he called the nearby fire station or some such, to be
told by those who answered, "Oh, it's you again," to his demand for
assistance. Apparently, the local fire thugs believe Rivera to be a
hypocondriac as well.
But this time, the Boy Who Cried Wolf couldn't get any attention for crying
wolf.
So he went to his neighbor's house for help.
When Stewart was convinced Rivera was serious about needing help, he rushed
Rivera to the hospital of his choice. That hospital was Bergan Mercy.
Apparently Rivera spreads the medical bills he doesn't pay around to as many
hospitals as he can and Bergan was that day's choice.
Rivera went in and out of consciousness as Stewart, not a fire fighter,
police officer, EMT, or any such and who was out of work then as he his is,
now, drove him to Bergan.
Once at the Emergency entrance, Stewart forced Rivera to carry himself
Admissions and told the staff that Rivera mixed his Tequilla with his
prescription meds.
Selvin Rivera was immediately admitted to Emergency for an overdose.
Rivera lived thanks to Stewart's selfless action.
It makes you wonder what the Omaha Police and Fire Division's are paid to
do?
The city of Omaha is embroiled in a tax increase fight to pay for criminal
pension spiking by Omaha Police Division officers with the citizens fighting
the tax increase proposals by Mayor Jim Suttle and the handouts to the Omaha
Police Union.
Why DO they pay these police officers and fire fighters for service that
seems to be provided by heroes like Trent Stewart of Omaha, Nebraska?
It's odd that Stewart is the man without a paycheck while the union thugs
demand more for doing next to nothing.
Although an Omaha serial rapist preying on the city for the last year was
finalliy apprehended, yesterday, in Iowa.
The violent serial rapist is a fire fighter and father of four.
The hero unions call it, "steady work" and "job security".
They also stalk, terrorize, wiretap, and hurt Mr. Stewart at every
opportunity claiming he's "taking their work".
It's a union thing?
Life's also getting better for Selvin Rivera since his overdose, although
his father, Osmin Rivera, was arrested for child molesting less than a year
ago and awaits trial and the family's daycare center where the sexual
assault of a child took place lost its daycare license permanently a couple
of weeks ago.
