Dear friends,
Amidst a number of uncertainties, at last the 12-member Pakistan Peace Delegation arrived in Delhi. The peace delegates interacted with a cross section of the civil society in Delhi in various programs. They asserted the aspirations of the civil society of Pakistan for peace and cooperation with India, echoing the sentiments of their Indian counterparts. Here is a brief report on their sojourn in Delhi:
On 2nd March 2009, the Pakistan Peace Delegation interacted with trade union and mass movement leaders at India Islamic Cultural Center. Mr Kuldip Nayar, Ms Amarjeet Kaur from AITUC, Ms Kamla Bhasin from Sangat, Mr Gautam Modi and Ms Rakhi of NTUI and others took part in this interaction hosted by COVA. In a meeting with religious leaders and civil society organizations, hosted by Indian Social Security, Muni Lokprakash Lokesh, Sardar Paramjit Singh Chandhoke, Goswami Sushilji Maharaj, Mr Gurvinder Singh from Indian Social Security and others participated. The Pakistan Delegation took part in a Human Chain organized at Raj Ghat against terrorism, war and for peace and cooperation. A number of citizens and civil society organizations participated in this human chain.

The Pakistan Delegates interacted with JNU students late into the night on the university campus. Prof. Amitabh Matto and office-bearers of JNU Teachers’ Association also took part in the interaction.(Watch out for our next update for a posting on YouTube for a video of the conversation at JNU.)
On 3rd March 2009, the Pakistan Delegation had a round table meeting with CII representatives at India Habitat Centre. This round table was hosted by CII. Sansad organized an interaction session between the visiting delegation and editors of media followed by a Press Meet at the Press Club of India.
