Is the New Government Committed or Complacent?
As the country awaits the first Union Budget of the new Government, the specter of the economic recession and the impending drought looms large over us. In this context, the policy measures in the Union Budget would be very important.
Moreover, while the previous Government did introduce a number of progressive policy measures during its five year tenure; many of its promises for the poor and underprivileged remained unfulfilled. Hence, the new Government needs to consolidate the progressive measures and correct the deficiencies in the Union Budgets of the last five years.
In this backdrop, Centre for Budget and Governance Accountability (CBGA) is organising a Panel Discussion on the Union Budget 2009-10 to highlight its implications for social sectors and the disadvantaged sections. This Discussion would be held on the 7th of July, i.e. the day after the Budget is presented to Parliament. You are cordially invited to be a part of this Discussion to share your views and questions relating to this Budget.
