Both states have just announced _major_ statewide shutdowns.

Getting my magic wand out, too.

(Alas, Harry destroyed the super duper one).

We already had shelter in place in Monterey County and I think this is the same. Can shop for food and other necessities. Go to health care appointments. Mail delivery. Banking, I assume. Will find out tomorrow. I’ve ordered groceries to be delivered. Other items from Amazon. We have had four positive test results in the county, don’t know how many performed. My bridge club is closed until mid-May which makes sense because we are all old. 😥 Thank goodness for my Kindle and many cable/streaming channels.

New York (alas), too.

P.S.  WNN reported today on the potential use of a malaria drug, chloroquine, against Covid-19.  I wonder how far the research is along the
line of targeting the receptor that it uses to invade cells.  It might be useful for severe cases in the period before a vaccine is available.
I don't think I've seen a news report about this area yet.  Here's a (relatively) readable scientific paper about it:

Update:  Anderson Cooper had Dr. Timothy Schacker, from the University of Minnesota Medical School on Friday
(3/20/20), see
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/2003/20/acd.02.html

They're looking at just this mechanism using blood-pressure medication "Losartan".  I'm not seeing any other studies in this
area currently.
