Wow.

In an alert reminiscent of an ominous one that came out ahead of Hurricane Katrina’s landfall on the Gulf Coast, the National Weather Service issued a statement that said, “If you are reluctant (to evacuate), think about your loved ones. Think about the emergency responders who will be unable to reach you when you make the panicked phone call to be rescued. Think about the rescue/recovery teams who will rescue you if you are injured or recover your remains if you do not survive.”

Wow.

I'm feeling pretty good about having moved to mid-Michigan, where there's been no hurricanes on record, and the first snows of the season aren't expected for literally hours.

One forecaster in the Philly office put his phone number in one alert, telling people that if it isn't as bad as they say, to call him Friday to bitch....

My gal owns a beach front house on NJ's Long Beach Island. 3 ft flooding so far...bay and ocean have met. Garage doors and front doors compromised. 2 more tides to go. She's Aussie and she tells me plainly, says "I'm frack'd"

Yeah, my parents have a house in Jackson about twelve miles inland. Well, eight miles now, but, it's … OK, six miles inland, but … let me get back to you.

Being in California isn't sparing me from hurricane heebee jeebees.

My mom's on a cruise ship south of Bermuda somewhere. I think the worst is over for her, but my brother tells me he spoke with her Saturday and she's bored, seasick and pissed off about missing Martha's Vineyard and Charleston. So I guess that means everything is pretty much under control.

They were supposed to port in Bermuda yesterday, but couldn't -- no reason given -- so they are heading to Ft. Lauderdale.

She's not on one of the major lines, so reports about itinerary changes and location are pretty much non-existent.

It's been a nerve-frying week.

Baseball is dead to me after that bogus Braves call in the Wild Card fiasco. Bud Selig and his fellow cabalists can take a flying leap. They've destroyed the former American past time.

You should be happy that the call allowed Braves fans to forget about the horrendous throwing error by the beloved Chipper Jones.

Actually, you should meet the bitter Dodgers fan over on another mailing list in which I participate, who has already accused the 2012 Giants of being the most 'roided-up team since the 2010 Giants, and will probably move on to corked bats next.

All is relatively managable in Worcester, though the high winds and rain do appear to be keeping down the usual sounds of random gunfire.

Fanboys and girls, get ready to celebrate - or be disappointed: Disney
announced Tuesday that it was buying Lucasfilm Ltd. for $4 billion, and
continue the Star Wars franchise with a new film in 2015.

I'm sorry, I can't imagine Mickey Mouse going "Luke, I'm your father..."

Although I can totally see him saying, "Come to the dark side! We've got cookies!"

(Then again, does that mean that there will be a Darth Donald mask sold at the parks?)

Maybe WNN staffers' use of the Force will finally become public!  (Wasn't there one time when we almost saw Willis willing donuts into his mouth?)
