Commodore legend Jack Tramiel passes away
Posted on April 9, 2012 - 16:43 by TG Daily Staff

Jack Tramiel, the founder of Commodore International, passed away on Sunday at the age of 83.

Tramiel - a Holocaust survivor - immigrated to the US from Poland in 1947. He joined the army, learned how to repair typewriters and founded Commodore in the 1950s. Starting with typewriters and calculators, the company would eventually roll out some of the first home computers such as the VIC-20 and Commodore 64.

Those of us from the other side of the fence remember Jack Tramiel from when, after being forced out at Commodore, he bought Atari from Warner Communications.

But I have no relevant Atari 520ST or Atari XE Game System memorabilia.

I've still got my 1040ST -- haven't tried it in years, though.

And yes, I've actually programmed the C=64, so I actually do know what
JSR $FFE7 does.

My friend Rob Jaegar created a game on his C64. It was incredible what he did with that thing -- in High School.
