The West Nile Education Trust Fund (WNETF), an initiative of the West Nile 1st July 2018 Foundation is a mutual fund of the community of people, friends and associates of West Nile. With the increased competition for education services, vulnerable members of the West Nile community are finding it increasingly difficult to access higher education.
Notably, the growing population needs services in critical areas such as health, education and technology. Therefore, it is with this background that the West Nile Foundation established the WNETF with the following objectives;
1. To promote learning among the youth originating from West Nile
2. To support vulnerable students who excel in national examinations and qualify to study in public universities.
The West Nile Educational Trust Fund invites applications for scholarship for students seeking to do Bachelors course in one of the professional fields below from any of the following public universities in Uganda;
1. Makerere University Kampala
2. Mbarara University of Science and Technology
3. Kyambogo University
4. Gulu University
5. Muni University
The applicants originating from the West Nile whether residing within or outside West Nile must prove that they meet the following requirements to be considered for the scholarship.
1. Must have excelled in National entry examination of Uganda Advanced Certificate Examination (UACE) 2017 making them qualify to be admitted for any of the following courses;
(c) Bachelor of Engineering
(d) Bachelor of Law (LLB)
3. Agree to be a grantor of the Trust Fund after completing studies and obtaining gainful employment by signing a bonding agreement.
4. Be unable to fully or partially pay tuition fees for the entry into any of the three listed public universities above.
In addition to the above requirements factors such as consistency in performance, discipline, extracurricular talents, leadership and interest of the student will be considered. The applicants must be in a position to demonstrate these by providing proof and or recommendations.
Qualified students who meet all the above requirements should submit their applications to: The Chairman, Board of Trustees, West Nile Education Trust Fund and drop their applications at the Development House, Parliament Avenue, Room 4.12, or Gaagaa offices on Bombo road (Arua Park) where a receiving desk has been established for this purpose. All upcountry applicants can access the Gaagaa Coach offices nearest to them for onward delivery to the central collection point on Bombo road.
Please ensure that your application is properly sealed and contains the following; Application letter with email and phone contacts, Admission form from the University, Recommendation letters from your LC 1 Chairperson and Religious Leader of your Community Church/Mosque, Photocopy of the O and A level result slips, National Identity Card and or Birth Certificate.
The closing date for applications is July 22, 2018.
NOTE: This is a competitive scholarship and West Nile Education Trust Fund is under no obligation to offer it to any student who meets partial or all the requirements. Applicants will be shortlisted and interviewed by a scholarship committee using set criteria according to the Articles of Association of the Trust Fund. No form of lobbying or canvasing is allowed as this will lead to an applicants’ automatic disqualification.
