What other linux distros do people use as such ?

Things I used :
Starting of with Ubuntu then installed KDE to replace Gnome2 - that makes it KUbuntu
KDE is good but then it felt so much like windows a lot of unwanted things and animations .
Moved to Linux Mint -- people on Hacker News were all praise for it and well i am happy with it as of now . All things simple no pains .

Arch, I am using Arch LInux. KDE on that.
Setting up an arch configuration is a good experience in my opinion.

started off with ubuntu, used linux mint  and in parallel tried out puppy linux.
Now, I have a parallel installation of Arch Linux and Ubuntu (which i rarely go to).

Arch receives relatively more updates than Ubuntu and is more up to date with the latest software. It is highly configurable, since it comes with practically nothing installed.

My roadmap:

Kubuntu -> Ubuntu -> Debian -> Puppy Linux (Studd distro!)

(parallel track)
Fedora -> RHEL -> OpenSUSE

(Current)
Arch Linux, CyanogenMod9, Ubuntu 12.04

I had a brief experiment with fedora. But finding the drivers was a huge pain. Also some strange grub problems arose during installation and i would need to boot using grub rescue everytime. Might give it another try sometime later.

If you are considering different desktops, then i also had lxde for a few days but it seemed too rough compared to gnome and kde.

Maybe would give archlinux a try sometime later. Building a system from scratch does seem interesting.

Using mint right now. It has most drivers by default and thus makes installation very very easy.

^ Precisely the reason behind my choice :P And 'coz I lost my long-standing Ubuntu 10.10 installation to a foolish sudo dd :'(

Actually, I tried out Arch on Rahil's first.

PS: I missed out Mint. Never installed on my own lappy, but on others.

While experience with Linux can be built-up by using any distro (if one has the right attitude, ) Arch is the tinkerer's best friend when it comes to distros.

I am surprised, no one mentioned Gentoo which gives the maximum
control over system compared with any other linux distro. It also has
awesome package manager emerge.
