Hi all,

I want to root my android device. I only care for running a ssh server on it and able to access it network card and camera.

The hardware is made by Lenovo and it is labelled as A369i. OS is 4.2.2 .

Any suggestions before I go about rooting it? If someone has followed steps successfully from some online post, I'd love to know.

 Thanks,

If you just want to root, refer to forum in XDA Developers, search for your phone model, or a generic rooting software.

Nope. I havn't tried anything yet. I am slightly reluctant to try. If
I screw up the device, I am not sure if reinstalling android will be
as strainghforward as intalling linux on laptop.

+1 Ashwin

Cyanogenmod needs you to flash itself on your phone, changing the whole OS, which you might not want to do for just root permissions, and do be careful if you go for it, the latest Cyanogenmod builds are buggy sometimes, install a stable one just to be sure you can use all the features of your device.

Do not worry, in case you even brick / soft-brick device there are recovery methods available, flash cyanogenmod from a recovery like clockworkmod recovery.

I would suggest you use clockworkmod recovery. :)

This worked for my LG E455. It is supposed to work for many devices. USB debugging needs to be enabled. There is a Linux version of the software but I haven't tried it.
