I have been trying to use TopCoder applet and I have successfully logged in into the main window by using the proxy settings B. But from there on, if I select anything in the practice room (SRM), the applet shows that it is "in process of servicing your move request" and never changes the screen. How to make this work properly ?

The applet hangs when u select old SRM's , even happened for me. Try selecting the latest SRM's , it might open.

i registered and am able to login through the main page but when i login through the applet it gives invalid username/password
