Hi,
I think now is a prudent time to discuss how to login to iitb to access internal sites from outside.
You can potentially register from outside IIT using this, but please don't. :P
As per institute rules, you should be present within the institute when you register.
The procedure varies by department, and you will need to use your department ID/password to actually login.
For CSE,
with password extvoxacc
Then choose 'mars' as your server. You will have to put in your CSE department username and password to login to mars.
From there, you can ssh to any nsl/osl comp and use w3m or elinks to browse the internal sites.
For EE,
SSH to
login.iitb.ac.in on port 7022 with username as gateway and password as toiitb. You will be prompted for your sharada username, and it will open an SSH connection to sharada
If you know the details for other departments, post them here.
So, I guess they use the port numbers( I see a pattern with the roll numbers CSE->5 and EE->7) and maybe account name to decide which server to forward the connection. I'm not sure how this works internally, but perhaps they have written a custom program for this or perhaps there is some standard package to set this up.
Note: I had some problems with elinks (It would not show some buttons). So I had to use w3m and the hindi version of the asc page.
