Hi,
here are some free ebook sites, a replacement for library.nu, do share with all and maintain a DC++ copy for the books, incase even that is shutdown:

http://en.bookfi.org
http://free-books.us.to/

use http://calibre-ebook.com/ to manage and share your library over a private network, it works really well.

I was just upgrading my Kindle firmware now and was looking for some ebook sites.

Thanks for the info, Aliabbas.

But really, why wncc_iitb? Is this the new BB? Is BB still alive in the campus? This post should have been on Google+. Are you on Google+? I want to circle you.

That's interesting, we can have our own online easily navigable  library of ebooks with metadata using calibre local server .

You guys can set up a insti-wide calibre server instead of a dc share for all the e-books. If that done already?

Just think a bit before you pitch these ideas, you are pushing for a hosted piracy platform on a public form.
Now I am not making a comment on whether piracy is okay or not (it is definitely not good) but to be fair
India has FAR less book prices than most of the western countries AND we have a library that has an
extensive set of academic books and probably literature as well.

So stop pushing for a system that is by definition illegal in India and could easily lead to action for institute
authorities if not from law enforcement authorities outside institute. If you want to host/publicize such a
system do it on a forum that is not official - you know which. This is NOT that forum and neither is it a
replacement for it. I may chose to support it there, but this is definitely NOT where I will support it or
even wish that moderators allow it.

Thanks Mayank, I am glad to see a sane post on this topic so far. This was the very sentiment behind in my first reply to the original post. Maybe the sarcasm got lost somewhere. However, I must apologize that I had to push (with the naive idea of an illegit e-book server in the campus) to instigate your reply.

I really hope the 'W' of the "WnCC in IITB" doesn't graduate to represent the piracy present in the campus and similar intents. If I am not mistaken, WnCC forms a part of the STAB, and I have huge respects for the STAB-IITB owing to my close involvement in it during the its conception days. It was hence a bit unpleasant to see this forum being used for communicating these ideas. I think there definitely must be far better forums for these discussions, as there were some back in my time.

I think the moderator(s), if any, should take a note of this and maintain decorum in all activities STAB is associated with.

@Ali
AFAIR you can post requests to Department as well as Institute libraries for books - students might need a signature from a professor though. I don't use liby (or even read books for that matter - not a good habit, I know) that often, hence cannot comment on it. I am just giving you a alternatives to an apparent need. And whether or not there is (or should be) discussion on any other forum on the topic, please refrain from commenting about the need, possibility and existence of sources of piracy on this forum - it will only attract unnecessary corrective attention. It will dull the mood of this forum and someone will be shunned for acting like the bad-corporate-or-anti-freedom guy.
Point is, Liby has a system to get books that you need but are not available. If it is not functioning well, please discuss it with GSAA(?) - he will be more than willing to look into the matter. This is not the forum to discuss it and neither is this a forum where we should be discussing illegal replacement for it.

@Siraj

It did, I though you had honestly suggested that LONG list of replacement :D

 'W' of the "WnCC in IITB" doesn't graduate to represent the piracy present in the campus and similar intents.
Oh absolutely, I think there will be a need of a disclaimer soon - if you want to learn to hack-gpo/tunnel/pirate move along.

Yes, WnCC has become a part of STAB. I hope that you are satisfied with the current level of involvement and activities in WnCC, any suggestions on how to improve this?
