Hello,
I am using mcafee antivirus plus(like many others) and because mcafee
doesnt have proxy settings like kaspersky, etc, so i am not able to
update mcafee over internet. Is there any solution to this problem?
somthing like autoproxy for android which can provide internet to
other apps on the computer?

You can set environment variable in windows . .
Add new variable called http_proxy with value 'http://user:pa...@netmon.iitb.ac.in:80'
and another variable called
https_proxy with value 'https://user:pa...@netmon.iitb.ac.in:80'

After then your all application will get internet access

If still not then try Microsoft security essential (its free for genuine windows) provided by microsoft. . .

try avast!  it is way better and  you can configure proxy inside it.

Use something like CCProxy to act as a cascading proxy.

Install CCProxy. It's a paid thingy, but you can run up to 3 clients even in the free mode.

Enter LDAP credentials in Settings in CCProxy. Choose port. I find 808 cute.

Now, you are effectively running a proxy server at <your IP>:808, or, for your computer, at localhost:808, that doesn't need authentication on the client side because CCP is doing it for you.

Then set proxy in netsh (Run-->netsh, Admin mode)

> winhttp
> set proxy localhost:<port> "<local>;..."

Where the ellipsis should be replaced by your by-pass list.

After this I've never had any proxy issues in Windows. And the best thing is, having this means that I never have to enter my login LDAP credentials every time I start my browser (bloody annoying), and don't need to save it in the browser either (either insecure, or behind a Master Password wall, which just substitutes one login credential for another)

The easy way out would be to download the offline update and install them manually.

I think CC does not like/allow cascading proxies. I remember someone facing network outage because of this.

You can't have everything in life,
In particular, the list of all lists that do not contain themselves.

This reminds me of my other post in another thread here on WnCC.Though I had suggested SQUID, any (cascading) proxy would be good enough. It also contains a link to blog explaining how to get iptables like nat functionality in Windows, through which a transparent proxy can be set-up.

The advantage of a transparent proxy over a cascading one is that even those applications that do not support proxy will work. Though I have no idea how netsh works, ("Does it just set the environment values, or does it act itself as a transparent proxy?") nor have I followed that blog, (Will someone be kind enough to try it out?) I much prefer a transparent proxy over a cascading one on my own system, having tried out both, one after another, in the reverse chronological order. Though technically, a transparent proxy can also be used as a cascading proxy, but the automatic redirection nat provides is so much more convenient.

Which one should we use? Transparent or cascading?
