Hi guys,
First of all, @wncc-team, you have been doing a very good job. Keep it up.
Its good to see wncc growing, but I guess its time to take some measures to adapt to the size group has grown in past years, and for future growth. I would like to suggest a good point to start.
Am an alumni, and a lot of posts doesn't concern me any more. The posts am interested are like algorithms, questions/problems in prog. languages, etc. and what I am not at all interested are those specific to technical problems in campus (which form the majority, like the windows 8 thing, and are like spam to me) . As a result, a lot of times relevant messages are lost in those 'spams'. And am sure am not the only one. This is only one scenario, there will be others.
I suggest we discuss about it, then give some time to wncc-team to launch a project in systematic way to solve this problem.
Here's my suggestion. Make tags. Like CAMPUS (mails which only concern campus students), ALL (might concern to all), maybe language tags, etc which will be mandatory to be specified in subject of mail. Obviously, this is not a simple task. It will require participation of all members and come up with relevant set of tags and then make it a rule to use them.
Advantages:
1) These tags will be easy to filter in gmail.
2) Sender will have to put these tags. So increase of load on moderators will be very less (just see if "basic tags" are there or not).
3) Will be helpful in categorizing of all future posts.
I agree, there will be an increased cost while starting threads, but it'll be negligibly small ( say, compared to thinking for 'right' subject ). In the end, it will be a collective responsibility of members to make this groups better and take it to next level.
