How do we activate the Matlab Software provided in the FTP server by IIT? It doesn't accept the code provided there as the licence key, as it doesn't accept letters as characters.

There is a *.lic file. That's the one to use. Not the key file.

Hi!
Could you please tell me where the *.lic file is located? I'm not able to find it.
Thanks!

Till you get your problem sorted out, you can play with octave which has syntax
similar to matlab and freely available. You can later execute the same code on
Matlab. But octave support for toolboxes is rather limited so its not going to
help much for very specific toolbox related stuff.

Your could look into C:\ProgramFIles\Matlab\Licenses folder.

I think you might be installing R2015A version for which the lic file is not available. You can install the R2014B version from here http://www.cc.iitb.ac.in/engservices/engftpserver/37-ftp-server . There is Readme file containing all the information you might need.

I am not exactly sure about the R2015A license file. It might be present inside the ISO file. Do check it once!

The License file isn't there inside the ISO unfortunately. I installed R2014B. Now there's a different problem. MATLAB opens only while connected to iitb server(through VPN or by being inside IIT). I can't use it at home. Is there any way around this?

As far as I know. no. In linux it needs to be connected to internal IITB servers. In windows I think it works fine even without any connection.

Anybody else?

I've been using it for quite sometime...
As far as I understand, the license file connects it to matlab.iitb.ac.in which is not accesible outside insti network. But there is a workaround, you need the server only when it starts. After Matlab is up and running, it does not check for the license file and u can use it as and when u want. This was for 2014a. For 2014b, it does check while running and give a warning similar to "unable to connect, will shutdown after 9 more commands". No workaround I could find, VPN is the best option I guess...

I'm working on 2014b, and you're right; That's exactly what happens. I guess I'll be using VPN then :/. So I can't work with MATLAB if there is no Internet Connection around?

I keep 2 versions of MATALB, one licensed 2014b to use in insti and a cracked 2009b (smalller size) for emergencies... numbers of which have risen a lot during the past months due to the condition of internet in insti :P
