Dear WNBR folk, Hally, Harmony and I met with Sam to discuss Burgerville. We looked at options and ways to make it work for us.

Estimations are that we could make 2-3 hundred dollars or so, depending on how well we promote the day. If it is a gangbuster day we stand to make more, but I think it would be a lot of work and not a lot of $
and we if we are throwing a big effort at this  I think we are looking to make $3000. (that's approx how much debt WNBR has right?)

So I just responded to this with a, "we are not sure, maybe the simple event. let me ask my group"

So group.

I see 3 options
1) BIG BURGER - we go for the gusto, bring the house
2) BurgerSmall - we promote the event, but have limited investment
3) walk away - look for something with a better return

Halley, Harmony, care to pipe in? I think Sam is great and im encouraged by lots of Burgerville's actions. But before we commit a lot we better have a good gut check.

Hey Phil, I've gone over the details for both the all day and period partnerships. I also have some numbers for the period partnership for you as well.

Our period partnerships have had some of the following numbers: $258, $181, $218, $264, $382, $263, $154, $298. These are based off of our past focus of organizations just coming to us and running the partnerships themselves. However, Geoff (Our GM) is having us take a more active hand in helping to make these events successful to improve both the donations going out and our return-on-investment coming in. So in theory your range should be on the higher end or more.

As for details on how they work, there are two ways. The first is the period partnership, which usually takes place over the course of about 3 hours. Any sales above the average expected sales for that day during that time are calculated out in the percentage that goes to you. This is better for a focused event, which I think your bike event might be.

The second method, the all-day event, has a slightly greater potential, but is much more difficult to execute. This event is promotions-driven, meaning that together we would design a flyer to represent your event/organization, and then have those made. Those flyers would then be brought in by guests. 10% sales from guests who bring in a flyer would be calculated. For every guest after the 100th, that perecentage increases to 15%, and after 200, 20%. As a result, this can be more lucrative, but requires a lot more effort to execute successfully. We haven't, to my knowledge, done an all-day partnership at this restaurant, so I don't have any numbers as examples for it. I think that for our purposes, this may not be what we're looking for at this time.

So that's a basic idea of how the partnerships function. If you have any more questions, I'd be happy to go into more depth with you.

While we're on that topic, however, I do have a question for your group: We're looking to make our restaurant more and more bicycle friendly. Traffic analysis says that we have more than a 1000 bike commuters coming by our corner every day, and we'd like to make this a convenient and comfortable place for them to grab a snack. So, what would you, as a bike commuter, like to see to make our location more attractive to you? To clarify, go wild here with your ideas, even if you think they're pipe dreams. We can respond in creative and dynamic ways to make things happen, but we need a perspective that fits the folk we're aiming for.

Thanks, and I'll see you guys in a few weeks!

-Sam

And you have to think that's just the "free" money that BV is giving us for having the event on their lot - we also will be doing a lot of stuff during the day and having our own fundraising/raffle efforts of our own the day of. All Hail our FUNdraisers!

In your opinion, what are some examples of the differences between options 1 and 2?
At a minimum, we would put the event on the shift calendar, send an email about it, a few tweets, maybe a mention on BikePortland. What's are our options for added "gusto"? Arranging for a band? Sprockettes?

I'm certainly willing to help gather gear for the event and work a four-hour shift washing bikes. (For those people who enjoy watching a forty-something guy in short-shorts and soap suds.) I guess I'm just not clear on how much over and above that is a possibility.

Please skim and reply quickly if possible!

I want a show of hands for who would be willing to spend 10-20 hours promoting and/or organizing the day of for a Burgerville event in August.

BIG BURGER = we try to take on as much as possible, all of our collective eggs in this basket to see what we can do to make it work. That prob means getting sponsors to donate things for a raffle, and selling tickets and doing pretty much every fundrasing trick in the book.

BurgerSmall = bikini bike wash and maybe a few other activities that should be fun and possibly worthy of some news coverage which might generate more interest. I can't say what those activities would be because at this point Im at a loss for what our core volunteers are willing to take on. I am sure Halley will give it her all, and Browse, I think you in a bikini sounds awesome (even tho ive still never seen you), but considering the vacuum of comments about this topic (and the fact that *Im* pretty dubious about my future availability) Im leaning towards the walk away option UNLESS I GET SOME MORE COMMENTARY NOW.

you have 3 hrs

If it isn't the first weekend in August, I'm down to help out. I look shitty in a bikini, though.

I can't commit to anything in August due to Cycle Wild commitments.

I can only commit to bikini washing and some promotion. I've got too much with the IPRC event in August.
