First off, thanks to all of you for your great work. We did great
with fewer resources than usual and more people than we expected, i
think.

I don't want to discuss everything yet, but it would be great if
everyone wrote down their thoughts about this year's ride so that we
can learn from what went poorly and reproduce what went well.

Let's plan on a post-mortem meeting in july. I've set up a poll to
choose times:

http://www.doodle.com/ep8cqeet7y4dtiw8

we're gonna go majority rules and if you can't make it to whatever
gets selected, please plan to send the notes you've taken (now! do it
now, while things are still fresh!) along and we'll discuss. In case
the majority can't make it, i'll ask one of that majority to set up a
poll for people who have more availability than me and i'll send my
notes in. please fill the poll out soonish so we can actually do this
instead of just talking about it =)

Hey Chris, will this party be open to people who weren't involved in planning, but want to be involved with planning for next year? (wondering if i can post this on shift as a "put your time where your mouth is" to complainers)

we definitely want their input! Not sure it makes sense to invite
them to the meeting--maybe invite them to send us their thoughts first
and invite the thoughtful, non-hateful ones to the meeting?

what does everyone else think? Carl and/or Meghan and I were talking
about how this is the time to get fresh blood involved, while
everyone's still all jazzed about it. I just don't want to moderate a
forum about photographers vs police-haters or other similar
non-constructive dialog.

I think post-mortem with current organizers (or past organizers) is
probably most effective for the moment before we open up again to new
blood. I worry that the meeting would end up simply becoming a forum
for complaining/rehashing previous concerns if it isn't kept to people
who have experience with what organizing entails. (Do we really want
to answer the question of "why don't we have a covered space?" over
and over again when any organizer knows the history around it?

Agree. But then follow shortly thereafter with a "are you interested in helping out next year?" meet-up.

I agree with Lily. Thing is, it's going to have to happen with new blood at some point. Maybe we should have a 2-stage meeting: 6pm for past organizers, 7pm for new blood. That way we can get our debrief out of the way without needing to address suggestions like, "Maybe Bridgeport would be willing to sponsor the WNBR..."

...or maybe 6pm and 8pm. But you know what I mean. Just an idea.

I'm a fan of a 2-stage meeting. I was originally thinking post-mortem
and new blood meetings would be two seperate meetings (like a week or
two apart) but maybe a 2-stage is the best way to make sure everyone's
available.

If this doesn't go through to the Google group, please forward.

Presuming folks are ok with me becoming re-involved with WNBR next year, I'd like to be at the post-mortem if possible.  I'd like to be involved again with the route and interface with the police at least, and to do that next year, it would be really helpful if I could be at the discussion about what went right, and what went not-so-right this year.  Not to discuss, but just to be a listener, and re-acquaint myself with the whole deal.  Last year's trip and this year's job hunting really put a damper on me keeping up with things.

Thanks,
-Matt

I cc'd Matt on my response because I think it'd be great to have him back at the table (he expressed interest privately). We were talking about having past organizers involved, so I thought it'd make sense to include him.

I believe he also said he'd buy champagne and lobster for everyone. Correct, Matt?

I joined the group, so I guess that means I'm officially volunteering myself for things again. (other than Cycle Wild) :-)

Couldn't find a reference to a Doodle anywhere - when's the meeting?

And kudos to everyone as always - awesome event this year, from the sound of things.  I did not go, but I've had commitments this year with Tour de Clack and trying to find full-time paying work.  So obviously I need to get back into the center of things for next year, right?

Thanks,
-Matt

Hi Matt,

Here is the link to the doodle poll.  http://www.doodle.com/ep8cqeet7y4dtiw8

I saw that you already signed up though, just wanted to put the link back on the message as a reminder to folks that haven't used it yet. So far it's looking like the 20th is a good day for people...

it's really difficult to think almost a month ahead but I did the best I could guesstimating on my current schedule. I thought it would be a more practical sign up like one or two weeks ahead. :/

ok, doodle tells us the 20th is a good day for everyone who cared
enough to submit this form to meet.

I'm happy to offer my place from 6pm onwards (shall we invite the
unwashed masses to stop by before 7:30 and settle down to srs bizness
then?) unless someone else wants to offer theirs.

ah, bummer. well, there will be more meetings. In case neither you
nor phil can make it, hopefully you'll write up what you need from the
crew for burgerville (yeah, i still owe phil a followup on his last
email--sorry for my sloth!)

It's in my calendar!  6pm for us, 7:30 for the masses sounds great.  Sorry to miss Phil and Halley--especially because you two have so much Burgerville info...  Halley--hopefully we'll get you for a min.

Yeah, my mom is coming in that day, so I will be probably doing the fam-din. I mean, I'm obviously not opposed to bringing her to my bike-work functions, but she might not be any help.

It's not guaranteed, though. They might be busy checking in for their convention. I just have to keep it kind of on the grayed out "just in case" because I am moving the next week and might need their assistance monetarily. *love bribes*
