Hi All,

Here's a quick update that Carl and I met with Molly and John of R/West yesterday.

Generally, they seemed to feel that the event went off relatively well, and it seemed that they might be interested in sponsoring the ride and afterparty again. Molly suggested we all get back in touch in November to discuss the possibility further. We have no contractual arrangement about continuing a relationship with Bridgeport/RWest at this time.
For 2011, R/West's sponsorship to WNBR is $750 for donation and $444.50 from beer sales.

They did say there was definite room for improvement (more promotion, better beer sales), and they mentioned that there was a fall-out with a neighboring business related to WNBR trash being placed in the wrong dumpster (I imagine this was a miscommunication, but Steve mentioned it a number of times, so I wanted to mention it here).

John was going to talk with Bridgeport about their perception of the event yesterday and promised to get back to us about the tenor of the conversation.

Afterwards, Carl and I chatted about possible next steps:
Follow up with John about BridgePort's feedback
Have recap/debrief with WNBR and look to next year
Start looking at sponsorship opportunities for next year

Is that what you remember, Carl? I'm glossing over a lot, which I think we can discuss during debrief, but there it is.

Thanks,
-s

yay! glad to hear their dollars justified me pulling that bridgeport
billboard during the ride =)

actually, this might have been our mistake. kate saw that "r-west's
dumpster is empty" so we (she & i) dumped trash there. assuming this
is the dumpster against the side of r-west's building, and not the one
actually under the bridge which was overflowing after bridgeport
clean-up and before we started moving trash at all.

seems like we might have guessed wrong. perhaps we should offer to
pay them for a week's trash service or something? i don't like bad
blood over things a few dollars could solve...

Except we don't have dollars, do we?

we don't actually know yet.

since i was personally involved in the screw-up, i might be willing to
personally make amends. i guess trash service could be ridiculously
expensive, but the size of the dumpster we used less than half of
doesn't indicate >$100/week at residential rates to my
back-of-the-envelope calculations.

It was my screw-up.  Steve told me we could dump trash in R-West's dumpster, which turned out to be located right next to their front door (that's where we dumped most of the garbage, and also the carpet).

I *did* leave about 4 bags of trash next to the overflowing dumpster that was located right under the bridge. This was before I located R West's dumpster.  It appeared to me at the time that the overflow dumpster was specifically for the afterparty trash...I assumed it had been rented for that purpose, since it was right there under the bridge and full of trash already that looked to me like party trash. When I found the RWest dumpster I briefly considered moving it, and it's clear now that I should have.

I would be happy to write a letter of apology to the business we offended, absolutely!

I should mention that I also picked up a lot (but not enough) of trash around the afterparty site.  I should also mention that it was a freaking MESS--people left all kinds of garbage and bottles/cans outside the party site for blocks. We should perhaps have dispatched some volunteers out there the night before/morning after for cleanup.
