The History Department invites the Western community to hear Professor
J. E. Lendon of the University of Virginia, who will speak about
"Rhetorical Education and the Boundaries of the Roman Empire." The
talk will be held in the Brown and Gold Room of the Bernhard Center on
Thursday October 6 at 4pm, with light refreshments to follow.
Professor Lendon has written several books on ancient Rome, the most
recent of which was "Song of Wrath: The Peloponnesian War Begins." The
address is part of the History Department's 2011-2012 speaker series
on "History across Borders, Boundaries, and Disciplines," sponsored by
the Burnham-Macmillan Endowment Fund.
