Important Announcements

Undergraduate History Awards

Attached please find award announcements and applications for the
Cheryl Lyon-Jenness Advanced Undergraduate Writing Award, the Margaret
Macmillan Undergraduate Writing Award, and the Emeriti Fellowships.
Applications and supporting materials for these awards are due Monday,
April 2nd. The instructions for the Emeriti Fellowship note an April
1st deadline, this is incorrect, the deadline has been extended to
April 2nd.

Course Withdraw Policy

Next Monday is the last day students can withdraw from a spring
semester course, so it is important that we make every effort this
week to reach out to students who are not attending class. Please
encourage instructors to report students who are registered but not
attending. This can be done using the "Report Student Not Attending/
Not Registered" link located on the faculty menu in GoWMU. Staff from
the Registrar's Office, as well as advising and Residence Life staff,
will follow up with students reported as not attending.

Nonprofit Fair

Held on Friday, March 23, 2012 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the East Ballroom
in the Bernhard Center on WMU's main campus. Here is a current list of
registered organizations coming: http://wmich.experience.com/stu/cf_details?fhnd=5512

WMU students are invited to meet nonprofit agency representatives and
learn about opportunities for service learning, internships, or
volunteering. These agencies are great sites for research and case
study work too.

This event provides nonprofits a chance to be seen by many college
students and spread the word about their mission and purpose.

Nonprofit Fair is meant to be less formal than a typical job fair, a
chance to begin dialog between agency representatives and students.
Students seeking internships in their field may wish to bring resumes
or plan to send them after the event to the agencies.

The event is free for agencies and students. All students, in all
majors are welcomed. Cookies provided.

The Writing Center

The Writing Center is now offering drop-in assistance as well as
appointments. In addition to scheduling 50-minute appointments with
trained consultants through the scheduler on our website (http://
www.wmich.edu/casp/writingcenter/), students may also stop by the
Writing Center during our open hours, and a consultant will work with
them, for at least 20 minutes, immediately (if consultants are not
busy) or within about 20 minutes of the students’ arrival at the
center (if consultants are all working with other students).

Writing Center Drop-in Assistance = Immediate (or nearly so) Response
to Students’ Writing Needs!

Students in online or regional campus classes have the same access to
the Writing Center as do campus students. If students can’t visit our
1343 Ellsworth Hall location, they can call us at 269.387.4615 to
schedule an appointment or ask for drop-in assistance. With drop-in
assistance, we’ll respond immediately, or we’ll return the call within
approximately 20 minutes.
