Below is information regarding the events on Tuesday, April 15 and Wednesday, April 16, which will be held on campus remembering the tragedy at Virginia Tech one year ago. All of the events are being planned and coordinated by the College Democrats, however, as gun violence is non partisan and deeply impacts us all, we plan to keep all efforts non partisan and open to the entire campus community.
Memorial Construction
Tuesday, April 15 at 8pm. Outside of the Bernhard Center.
We will be constructing a memorial recalling our peers lost at Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois in the past year due to campus shootings.
"Lie-In"
Wednesday, April 16, Noon. At the Flagpoles
We will lie on the ground for 3 minutes as a part of a national effort that will be taking place in nearly 70 cities across the county. The "lie-in" will symbolize how quickly so many lives were lost last year due to do campus gun violence.
Candlelight Vigil
Wednesday, April 16, 9pm. Outside of the Bernhard Center
We will conclude our anniversary events by holding a brief candlelight vigil and recalling, for one last time, our classmates, professors and others who were lost in senseless gun violence at Virginia Tech.
We do encourage you to wear maroon and/or orange showing your support for Virginia Tech on Wednesday. We also have stickers and pins that we will provide for you to wear throughout the day.
