Notes from the West Midlands Participatory Arts Forum May 19th
2011-05-24. Venue Oaken Gates Theatre, Telford
1) Why are we here?
People fed back what they wanted to get out of meeting
a. Meeting with like minded people
b. Link with Arts and health
c. Excited by the idea of a net work
d. Learn from each other
e. Keeping an outward focus
f. Looking for partnership Cross over
2) Principles
Talked through the principles list that Worcester and Herefordshire
group had developed. Owen agreed to take this away and make it into a
short, practical document that we could use as a reference point for
the group. This will be circulated with the aim of approving at the
next meeting,.
3) Aims/ purpose of the Group
We listed some of the things we would like to achieve as a group.
These included
a) Becoming a net work to support each other
b) To raise the profile of Community Arts.
c) To be a grass roots organisation
d) To Campaign and to Lobby for Community Arts
e) Encourage debate and reflection
f) To organise events
g) Act as a consultative body
Owen H Agreed to take these notes away and write a list of Aims for
the organisation which will be circulated for agreement at the next
meeting
4) How do we want to do it?
a. We are principally a group of individuals – though some may come
from organisations.
b. Perhaps a core group of organisers to keep continuity This could
change
c. Blog/ Web Presence
d. Keep it organic
e. Change Facilitators at every meeting
f. Piggy back onto other events where appropriate. E>G Proposed
that we have a WMPAF event as part of Staffordshire Arts and Health
Event in September. Recommendation t be taken back to the Conference
steering group.(Via Mark/ Owen)
Actions
Owen to write up Principles/ aims and circulate draft.
Max –organise next meeting in Wolverhampton for early July to take
recommendations forward. Praxis and Cultural Sisters to present a
case study. Max to co-ordinate Facilitation of the event.
Jenny Smith - Put together an email list and centralise to keep it up
to date.
