All -

please can you review the following request from WMO Space-based Observing Division (Jéome Lafeuille, Nils Hettich) . Comments by 10-November-2012 will be accepted.

""" [...] I would like to propose to include the term "Space Weather" in the next update of the WMO metadata code list, as this is an important area which cannot be well described with the current identifiers. """

This requires an amendment to <CodeList> WMO_CategoryCode. The current state of the <CodeList> (as defined in WMO No. 1060 Manual on WIS, Attachment II-1.3-Part 2, Table 23) is included below for reference [1].

Note that the WMO Core Metadata Profile includes the mandatory requirement that each WIS Discovery Metadata record shall include at least one keyword from <CodeList> WMO_CategoryCode.

Proposed amendment to <CodeList> WMO_CategoryCode is marked in red using the next available line number (#27):

Jeremy and all,

I'm also supporting we add "spaceWeather" as a new WMO_CategoryCode entry for the community's sake.

One thing I'd like to raise on this opportunity.  People at Global Atmospheric Watch (GAW) is not completely happy with using existing WMO_CategoryCode.  They want something like "atmosphericComposition".  I'can follow official procedure.  Should I?

For me existing categories looks like designed without MECE principle in mind.
Months ago I reviewed the list and thought there are spme some potential addition.  Please see if you are interested:

Best,
Eizi
