Hi all,

I'm sharing some simple rc scripts for wmii, notably to manage status
bars using separate processes and also a search+goto-window script.

It's at: https://github.com/aht/wmiirc

P.S. Looking at http://wmii.suckless.org/, it says wmii is now
deprecated? Was there any announcement for that?

It has been discussed quite a bit already; you can search the ml
archives to find it. wmii is hosted at Google Code still, though I'm
not sure if anybody works on it anymore.

If you want to feel like belonging to Anselm's elite suckless group
you'll have to switch to dwm (and update it at full moons), but if
you're fine with making up your own opinion you're still free to use
wmii as long as it keeps working for you.

One of the most powerful strengths of open source software is that it never gets 100% obsolete. As long as the source is available, you always have the choice of download it, compile it and tailor in a way that fits your needs.

I use wmii as well, it is because it works well in small screens. I use it on my Eee 701SD which has a 7 inch screen. The killer feature is its ability to stack windows in stacked mode. This allows to move across windows in a single workspace as if you were reading the cards in a rolodex. Although it also allows for panelizing and floating modes, it is the stack mode that makes it  suitable for this screen size.

I also compiled wmi, because I needed to run in a computer in which X does not have xrandr support. It works pretty good as well even though it is considered legacy.

My 2 cents...

monocle doesn't show the window titles of the unselected windows.

Right. Just as a suggestion, committing to memory the windows one has under
each tag might be slightly more efficient re screen space. But I see how
stacking might be preferable to some.

If you like wmii, you should try i3: http://i3wm.org/

Hi Nikhilesh:

I have i3 on the radar, but I just have not have the chance to play with it. Thank you for reminding me :) .

I went through the screencast that  is linked in their website and it seems pretty good.
It seems to have more granularity in the way windows are managed.

I'll certainly give it a go. :)
