to WMFO Ops List
Yesterday evening, Frank played an old fundraising PSA in his pre-recorded show, which directs listeners to donate.wmfo.org. That URL (and a bunch of others, according to Dreamhost) doesn't go anywhere useful at the moment. It should go here: https://www.wmfo.org/donations-drive/

The best thing to do is probably stop using the old PSA. So can someone delete it?
In an ideal world, someone would clean up all the outdated references in DNS. At minimum, can someone with Linode access edit DNS to correct the info for "donate" (or get me access, which requires coordinating a TFA)?

Thanks,
Ray Charbonneau

Great catch Ray -- Yes, I can remove those donation PSAs with the incorrect URL info from playing as well as any buttons for them on Rivendell panels when I come in to do my show on Friday.

I cannot help however, with the DNS etc. issues...

Yeah should we set up a redirect to the new page?

That would be what I’d do.

PLEASE, PLEASE do NOT delete the old PSAs.  Some are from wonderful DJs like Billy Bob Neck persona who like Alex P. broke his leg trying to get to WMFO in the winter.  Many of those were made when we still had working cart machines (short 8 track tape players/recorders).  Guys, we are facing the fact that WMFO is barely functioning as a public radio station since March 2020 and even before that.  Thanks to Rose, we had a fella from Lowell as our engineer, we got a sponsor who has other Tufts groups, we haven't run a real fundraiser since 2018.  We had one awesome LIVE RADIO DAY thanks to Bob et al, but thanks to Covid and its many variants, it will be a while before we see one again.  DO NOT JUMP THE GUN while our exec board is on spring break.  Just disable the PSA section from ADELE and Rivendell for the time being.  I have been trying to bring back our PO Box which i am willing to pay for as a community person.  WMFO does have a budget and is financed by student activity fees.  Some things we've been thankful to lose like a FAX line. Others were in the budget and ignored as "too expensive".  Bailey tried doing the ops director but could not remember what to order and used the meetings as a giant coding exercise when he would remember to announce them.  Jordan has been responsive but trying to find out who will take over the position when he matriculates out of Tufts has been ignored.  That's why we have the official PSA annoucement from Zoe and FRANK ROSSANO or someone else needs to record it or direct people to our front page.  I know TMI..

Thx for pointing that out. Too bad tho, it's a great fundraising PSA. Would it be possible to keep it and just put a redirect as Nick mentioned? The web address is the only thing that's wrong with it, right?

No. It also refers to a bad mailing address and a fundraising goal that doesn’t currently exist.

Rivendell is for resources we play in the air, not an archive. Outdated, inaccurate PSAs should be removed.

A fun project that could go hand in hand with the "new media" position would be creating a "memory lane" section of the website where people could listen to old psas, station ids, look at pics, etc. An archive in general would go a long way towards telling the station's story and building pride/camaraderie.

I understand your perspective on keeping outdated PSAs in Rivendell Ray, and I do delete expired Ad Council PSAs, but the number of staff created PSAs and promos is relatively small, so when they become no longer suitable for broadcast I move them to a special PSA "Do Not Air" category...

So Sam's memory lane project is feasible -- Past Exec Boards have created some hilarious fundraising PSAs!

If you’re looking for a PSA is in Rivendell, you can do a blank search under the PSAs subcategory in the drop-down list. You don’t ever have to search “PSAs.” As long as these antiquated PSAs are not in that category, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Alright in true fashion, the donate.wmfo.org and donations.wmfo.org (because of course there are two different ones) were both CNAMEd to a broken heroku app. I updated the DNS to point back to the linode server and set up a redirect to the new URL.

Side note: why do we create a new thing every year and then leave the old ones scattered about and broken? Did Tufts stop supporting the UPay thing that we used to use that gave us visibility into donations?

Since we haven’t done a drive since (I dunno-sometime before March 2020), this is just one of the many bits lost to the mists of
