Have you wondered who Justin Bieber, Kanye West and Madonna turn to when they have a problem with Congress? Ever think about who is lobbying for Rihanna on Capitol Hill? Want to know why music and film companies supported the SOPA and PIPA bills that Wikipedia and Google protested against?
Come join the Institute for Political Citizenship for a discussion with Matthew Gerson (LA '80), the top lobbyist for Universal Music Group, the largest music company in the world. Gerson previously worked for the MPAA, Hollywood's trade organization and lobbying group.
Event Details:
What: Discussion with Matthew Gerson, chief lobbyist for Universal Music Group.
Where: Campus Center Upstairs Conference Room
When: Thursday, May 3rd from 1 pm to 2 pm
*Lunch will be provided by Dave's Fresh Pasta*

Mr. Gerson oversees all public policy issues relating to UMG’s businesses. He directs the company’s interaction with the U.S. Congress and the Administration and coordinates the company’s work with entertainment industry trade associations.
In 2007, Mr. Gerson was named a 'Washingtonian of the Year' by Washingtonian Magazine. The honor was in recognition of his volunteer efforts on behalf of pediatric cancer patients.
Mr. Gerson joined Universal as Vice President of Entertainment Public Policy for Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Inc., a U.S. subsidiary of The Seagram Company Ltd., prior owner of Universal Studios, Inc. Formerly, he served as Vice President of Congressional Affairs at the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), the lobbying trade organization for Hollywood studios. His background also includes serving as an attorney with the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, specializing in public policy issues relating to copyright, communications and technology.
