Talking to some radio folks from other stations brought to my attention that the FCC in 2018 transitioned public files online, and at the beginning of the pandemic exempted broadcasters from any requirement to let the public in to view a hard copy.

My question is, are we still maintaining a hard copy and telling people we have to let the public in in to view it? I haven’t trained anyone in a couple of years so I haven’t even thought about the public file in that time.

But if the requirement no longer exists, and we are still teaching new DJs this, maybe we can stop.

Pete,

Sorry if you already know this, but it’s a viewable option on the website. But I don’t know if the trainers are told that is an option rather than the hard copy in the file cabinet.

Arthur.

I guess my question is, are we required to maintain the public file in hard copy anymore?

The file is no longer required to be hard copy.  Here's the rule:
"The public inspection file shall be available for public inspection at any time during regular business hours. All or part of the file may be maintained in a computer database, as long as a computer terminal is made available, at the location of the file, to members of the public who wish to review the file."

So, if someone shows up and wants to see the file, we would need to provide access at the station (but I would think pointing them to the Tufts library to use a computer might be fine).

Thanks, I had a feeling you’d know, Belinda.
