Generated menus - PL submenus or standard?

Hello, list,

I've been learning to implement generated submenus to improve my workflow. I see
there's two types: a "Generated submenu" and a PropertyList submenu.

Other than syntax, what is the difference between both submenus? What is the
recommended usage of each type? If someone can point me to the right spot in the
docs, I'd appreciate it.
