[PATCH] Fix make check with libtool >= 2.5.3.

Hello,

with libtool >= 2.5.3 make check fail with:

I am proposing a slightly different version of the patch from Andreas:
- to provide clearer comments in the changes, to better understand why
the version range;
- to try to provide a better title to the commit message;
- to make something git-am-ready
