Dear Kara,

An afternoon tea sounds like a lovely idea.  From the dates you offered, April 30th at 3:00 PM is the only time that will work on Dean Hammonds’ calendar.  I will hold this time until I hear back from you with confirmation and further details regarding the venue.

Best Wishes,
Marie

Dear Marie,

Thank you for the wonderful news. We are very excited to host Dean Hammonds for our final event this spring!

We are hoping to hold the event as an afternoon tea either April 28th, 29th or 30th, preferably at 3 or 4:00. The event will be held in a private dining room in one of the campus houses and will serve as the concluding Women's Discussion Forum of the Women's Leadership Project. We hope to reflect on the year and hear Dean Hammonds perspective on women's groups on campus and women and leadership in general. We hope she will share her experience as a female dean and foster a discussion based on the participants particular interests and questions. The group will consist of about 15 women leaders on campus who are are very excited at the prospect of meeting Dean Hammonds.

Please let me know if you would like further details and how to proceed with selecting the date and time.

Again, thank you for your response. I look forward to working with you to plan this event!

Best,
Kara

Dear Kara and KC,

We recently received a letter from you inviting Dean Hammonds to join as a guest speaker at an upcoming Women’s Leadership Project luncheon.  You proposed a small intimate discussion with Dean Hammonds and a panel of about 15 Harvard College students.  Dean Hammonds has accepted your invitation and very much looks forward to working with you.  Please email me at your earliest convenience with further event details.

Best Regards,
Marie

Great! I'm going to tell Hammond's office to save that date. After tomorrow's event, if you could come up with a list of 2-3 people you think may be interested in coming or people you know who have attended a previous WLP event, please make send that info to the list and we'll use that as our core mode of publicity - we want to make this a personal invite thing, not mass email.

Also, just FYI, I'm having trouble getting people to commit to coming for 2 hours tomorrow. How long will the event realistically be, not including refreshments after? Let me know!

Thanks,
Kara

Hey Kara,
Just tell people it's one hour, don't say 2 hours, even tell them to come for just 30 minutes. Friday should be good for me, assuming we don't win Ivys... good work on getting Dean Hammonds! And weren't we planning on doing a lunch at a restaurant with her?

I think we decided against the restaurant bc that might seem like she's more important or something - I thought it would be cool, but the tea on campus will be nice too-- we want to get a really nice space and go all out on the tea and food for this one!
