BOSTON CALLING ANNOUNCES

THE BOSTON CALLING BLOCK PARTY SERIES

HELD EVERY THURSDAY EVENING

MAY 8 – SEPTEMBER 25, 2014 IN DEWEY SQUARE

BOSTONCALLING.COM

May 5, 2014 – Boston, MA – Crash Line Productions, in partnership with Downtown Boston Business Improvement District (BID) and The Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy, announces the 2014 Boston Calling Block Party series. Kicking off May 8, 2014 and running through September 25, 2014, the parties will be held every Thursday evening from 5-8pm in Dewey Square, directly across from South Station. All events are free and open to the public, and are presented by Shock Top and Radio BDC. The Swinging Johnsons will perform this Thursday and fans can check the rotating schedule of local artists each week at www.facebook.com/bostoncallingblockparties; www.bostoncalling.com. The Block Party series is in addition to Boston Calling’s three-day music festivals, which take place May 23-25, 2014 and September 5-7, 2014 respectively.

While Boston has enjoyed five successful seasons of block parties on Summer Street in Downtown Crossing, the new location in Dewey Square Park will offer a more expansive layout, the opportunity for attendees to spend time enjoying the beautiful Rose Kennedy Greenway, and performances by local artists who were selected by Boston Calling. With the series’ central downtown location, Bostonians can easily leave the workday behind and enjoy live entertainment by local bands and DJs, and an assortment of Anheuser Busch options. The farmer’s market on the plaza will also be open during the Block Parties, offering farm fresh local produce and artisanal items.

Mayor Martin J. Walsh said, "We are excited about Boston Calling's creative activation of the City of Boston's unique open spaces. The popular Block Party Series' move to Dewey Square, where food trucks and the Boston Public Market already bring people together, will add additional energy to the square. It will create a new environment for friends to gather after work, and will make the Rose Kennedy Greenway and our whole city even more vibrant."

We’re thrilled to be working with Boston Calling and the Downtown BID to bring the Block Party series to Dewey Square Park on the Greenway,” said Jesse Brackenbury, Executive Director of the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy. “Dewey Square is a social “hub,” a natural fit to host the Block Parties.  It is one of the Greenway’s most popular mid-day destinations where professionals, locals and visitors come to enjoy fresh, local food from the Farmers’ Market and it also hosts our largest selection of Mobile Eats vendors."

We look forward to greeting our loyal fans at this convenient and fun location,” said Rosemarie Sansone, President of the Downtown Boston BID. “For the past five years, Downtown Boston’s young and old have met on Summer Street to enjoy the Block Parties, and now they will be able to do so at Dewey Square—an ideal venue for these safe, entertaining, and wildly successful evenings.”

Crash Line Productions is a Boston-based entertainment production company that owns and produces dozens of events each year.  Formed in 2012 by Brian Appel and Mike Snow, Crash Line Productions continues to build its event platform around its flagship event, the semi-annual Boston Calling Music Festival.

The Rose Kennedy Greenway is the designated steward of the Rose Kennedy Greenway, a mile-a-half of contemporary parks in the heart of Boston. The Greenway, a roof garden atop a highway tunnel, connects people and the city with beauty and fun. The non-profit Conservancy maintains, programs and improves the Greenway on behalf of the public and in partnership with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
