It's September and the raptor migration will soon be in full swing. As is the case every year, I plan to visit the Castlegar hawk-watch site 2 or 3 times between now and mid-October. Weather permitting, I am planning a visit next Sunday, September 7. Many of you have visited the site before and will appreciate that the more eyes the better. The ridge along which the birds pass is quite high and the birds can be hard to spot initially. Most have to be identified through a scope. But before the scopes come into play, the 'eyes' have to see the bird flying by.
As usual, we meet at the park'n'ride parking lot between the airport and the Kootenay River bridge at 930. Surveys run for 4 hours, from 10:00 to 2:00. Bring a chair and a lunch.
I will check the weather later in the week, if it's not suitable we will have to postpone. It's not worth sitting there for 4 hours if nothing is flying by!
If you do plan to join me, please let me know,
Thanks,
Gary
